Bombers looking to cement top spot in West Division standings​


The West Division's playoff picture could become a lot clearer this week. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (12-4) and BC Lions (12-5) are battling for top spot — and home field for the division final Nov. 11 — while the Saskatchewan Roughriders (6-11) and Calgary Stampeders (5-11) both have designs on the third and final playoff berth. A Lions loss Friday night to Calgary or Winnipeg win Saturday over the Edmonton Elks (4-13) would give the Bombers first in the West. The Lions would finish second and host the conference semifinal Nov. 4 against either the Stampeders or Riders. Calgary would cement third with a win over B.C. and Saskatchewan loss Saturday to the Toronto Argonauts (14-2). But the Riders would take the No. 3 spot with a home win over the Argos and Stampeders loss to the Lions.

Lions QB Adams earns third CFL honour roll top grade​


Lions quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. has earned a spot on the CFL's weekly honour roll for his role in B.C.'s 33-30 road win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Adams was the top-graded quarterback (91.4) after completing 21-of-30 passes for 296 yards and two touchdowns. It was his third selection this season. However, a leg injury sidelined Adams late in the contest. Backup Dane Evans, a former Ticat, completed all four passes he attempted in leading B.C. down the field to set up kicker Sean Whyte's game-winning 48-yard field goal. Players in nine specific positions are highlighted as per data points registered and compiled by Pro Football Focus, a sports analytics company.

Argonauts signs Canadians Ungerer to contract extensions
Ungerer has registered 35 catches for 491 yards and three touchdowns in 17 games this season, his first with Toronto. Before joining the Argos, Ungerer played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2019, 2021-22). - Hagerty is in his third season with Toronto. He has appeared in three games this year, recording eight tackles before sustaining an injury.

Kelly one of eight Argos named to CFL all-star squad​


The post-season honours continue for Toronto Argonauts quarterback Chad Kelly. Kelly, recently named the East Division's outstanding player nominee, earned a spot on the CFL all-star team Wednesday. Voting was conducted by the Football Reporters of Canada and nine league head coaches. Kelly was among eight Argos named to the squad, the most of any CFL team. That's not overly surprising as Toronto (16-2) tied the league record for most regular-season victories while establishing a franchise best in that category. Joining Kelly are centre Darius Ciraco, guard Ryan Hunter, tackle Dejon Allen, linebackers Wynton McManis and Adarius Pickett, defensive back Robertson Daniels and special-teams dynamo Javon Leake.

Kelly enjoyed a record-setting 2023 campaign, his first as Toronto's starter. He won 15-of-16 starts, the 93.8 win percentage being the best ever by a player with at least 14 starts. On the season, Kelly completed 270-of-394 passes (68.5 per cent) for 4,244 yards with 19 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He also ran for 248 yards and eight TDs -- tied for second-most in the CFL -- on 40 carries (6.2-yard average). Ciraco, Hunter and Allen anchored a Toronto offensive line that allowed a CFL-low 19 sacks. Allen is also the East Division nominee for the CFL's outstanding lineman award.
