Chris Benoit and his whole family are dead

Jesus. This is so unbelievably horrible. I feel so badly for his family, -omg- what must his surviving kids feel?
but also, I feel awful for the devoted fans who admired him - what a way to remember your hero.

If one wants to take oneself out, fine.
But don't take innocents with you, that's just being a despicable fucktard.

I really really really hope it's not true

The only alternative theory being posted around at the moment is this but given the police and DA's comments thus far I would take it with a huge boulder sized grain of salt.

From TMZ.com

My second cousin is an officer with GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigations) and what he's heard in his circle is that Chris Benoit's wife killed their son Daniel, called Chris and told him to rush home because of an emergency which is why he missed last Sunday's Vengeance PPV. Upon arriving home Benoit killed his wife in a rage for the death of his son and then killed himself Monday morning. His wife's body was found in the master bedroom, strangled with the cord from an alarm clock. The son's body was found in his room apparently suffocated with a garbage bag. Chris then wrote a suicide note explaining what had happened, apologized to his family, his other children (from a separate relationship), and his fans. He then fashioned a slip-knot noose from from rope taken from the garage and hung himself from the banister in the foyer of his suburban Atlanta home.

I think this is a rather unfounded rumor to be perfectly honest.

Autopsy results won't be available for a few weeks and we will have to wait for that until we get a proper offical account of what happened.

I don't know what to say. My instinct is to not believe he'd be capable of it just because he was such a great wrestler, which makes no sense of course and everything seems to be pointing towards double murder/suicide...I still feel sick.

If it turns out Benoit strangled his wife and son a day apart, as sad as it sounds, I can only hope the little boy was murdered first. I cannot even begin to comprehend what it must have been like for him living for a full day in the knowledge his mum had been killed by his dad and her body was still in the house.

Although, then again, maybe he didn't know. Maybe Chris Benoit killed his wife first and kept his son out of the way of discovering her body. Then, knowing that his crime would be discovered eventually, saw no way out and killed his son so the whole family unit was gone, before taking his own life.

All speculation aside, what an incredably sad situation in whatever way you look at it. I can't understand what would drive someone to do that to their own loved ones, especially if it was strangulation -- it's so frightening and brutal. :(

Still morbidly waiting for the "bizarre" details to come out...

It is now confirmed that he murdered his wife and child before commiting suicide.

Strangled the wife, smothered the child after watching Vengeance with him while the wife was dead (wtf?!) and then hung himself.

There is still a press conference to come but anyone holding out hope that he wasn't guilty of this -which was pretty much all of us- has to accept that he did.

Wow.. that's fucked up.

Light relief.

Unplesent news indeed.

Still don't know what to say.

God, this is absolutely horrible.

I don't want to remember him this way.

There was a big article in the paper about it today. I can't remember everything but someone's claiming that it can't be "roid rage" because of how long it took.. saying it wasn't rage, because it was too methodical or some shit. Plus he didn't test positive for steroids in April, but he could've quit long enough to pass the drug test, or maybe there's a way to beat that test just like other drug tests.

Whatever.. it's still fucked up.

this is worse than when Eddie died :(

I don't think it is. I feel more regret & disgust, to be honest. With his failure to be a husband & father. God knows what went on, but he seems to have chosen a coward's way out - ironic given what the public perception of the man through his real-character interviews & DVDs.

Additionally, the Guerrero family, who were very close, including Chave Guerrero, will now be put through the grief process all over again, including the confusion over what Benoit chose to do. That only enhances what I believe to be a selfish & tragic act.

I don't want to remember him this way either, but it looks like we're all going to have to, and rightly so.

Good post...I didn't want to say something to the effect of "well, this has spoiled his matches for me forever" because it would sound so insignificant given what's happened.

The added poignancy of seeing Benoit & Guerrero hug in the ring after WM, with genuine emotion will never be felt again. Benoit has utterly devalued his legacy, and even managed to ruin Guerrero's somewhat, given that their best moments were shared in that ring that night.

I don't agree with WWE's stance on many things (like, continuing to splatter any video link with or newstory with unrelated Shopzone links), but with their decision to discontinue any mention of Benoit on their programming, I agree. What can you say in the circumstance, without being criticised?

You can't erase history by refusing to talk about it or mentioning it.
You can write around it so it doesn't come up,
And you can distract people from it,
But please, his In-ring presence and his demise are two different things.

Do you look badly on Crash Holly for him committing suicide? does that mean we don't mention him even though he was entertaining?

Granted, Benoit murdered. I'm still waiting for the reports on motive, mental state, drugs (even prescription drugs can be harmful. Mix or OD), Was there information that he learned that threw him into a rage?
There are so many unknown factors, most of which I doubt we will ever know.
