Derren Brown - The Events

Or if he'd brutally gunned down his friends and said "now that I've got money I can BUY the police!"

In the adverts he says these are events of misdirection, so maybe he'll fail to guess the numbers correctly, but use it to divert our attention from something else?

I'd be surprised if there wasn't some sort of twist to what he's doing. Ultimately he can't get the right numbers before they are out of the machine which means it would be simply a timing delay to get the result which isn't that amazing and would be pretty obvious as well.

We will find out pretty soon anyway.

He only went and got all 6!

Well he didn't reveal his picks for the numbers until after they'd been drawn. They were supposedly written on ping-pong balls facing away from the camera and only turned round so we could see them once the draw was over. The balls were in view for the entire process, but some split screen could've been used to have someone write the numbers on them as they were drawn.

Split screen is a very plausible explanation. It's just camera trickery though which is a bit cheap for Derren.

I guess we will have to wait until Friday for the explanation (not that there is a guarantee that he will tell us the truth of course)

It was all done with mirrors.

He's clearly the second best mentalist ever.

Yeah, that Patrick Jane is quite a guy...

Mmm, I'd agree, except all of his adverts for this series have used prominent effects work, so using split screen and perhaps a motion control camera here would follow on. I hope it's something completely unexpected, but I can't think of anything else.

Incidentally, Paul Daniels urged Derren Brown to get one wrong. (How scary is this photo?)

He made a thing of pointing out that it was just him and two cameramen, but yet we only saw through one camera.

So I'm guessing the second cameraman has something to do with filming the angle for whatever the reveal is.

Good point. They never did show us that angle again...

Also, I correctly predicted the bonus ball, Wacky predicted the number 23 and Menty predicted the number 11. Boy... that's a year of our lives gone...

Or he really did film every possible combination. That would take about a year!

It's possible since he did a similar thing in the horse racing show when he flipped some coins over and over again, but since it's easier to just fiddle with the balls on this one I think that's what he did.

The balls could have OLCD displays on them, and they just programmed each ball with the number as it came up.

Hello, yes, first of all well done, that was fantastic TV. And secondly mutant chickens. I think those balls were in fact eggs, and the unhatched chicks inside pecked out the numbers upon hearing them read out by Derren. This would necessitate a fiendishly intelligent breed of chicken. Maybe a chicken/parrot/minah bird hybrid?

Derren is just amazing and extremely clever and talented. No doubt he has a system, but my 'crazy' theory is augmented reality, placing 3d marks on the balls where the numbers could be altered after the results were made, and the numbers then applied to these 3d markers placed on the ball. Or Derren is from the future.

They do this on every football match with barely anyone noticing and the software is extremely sophisticated, so it's possible.

Interesting. It could be like the horse-racing prediction with a pool of possibilities and one potential outcome/winner. Theoretically the odds of matching 6 numbers is 13,983,816 to 1, but interestingly taking this down to matching 5 numbers (which was his aim) is 55,491 to 1 roughly.

Interesting odds. Maybe?

55,491 to 1 odds for the 5 number combo? Now that is interesting. A year of his life to make this work? Those odds are much more realistic.

I love the eggs one!

When he turns the balls around they're in an awful mess considering he's supposed to have put them all there before the broadcast. Especially 39, which lots of people have pointed out actually moves place slightly during the broadcast.

I think Derren must have some sort of Phsycic powers where he can either predict and see the numbers when they are drawn, or maybe his belive in himself caused these numbers to be drawn remember "If you have absolute Faith [a belief] you can move mountains" He may be an aethiest but this does not stop his Faith in something he stronly believes, I would like that straong belief, as I have experienced things like getting a better job through applying for a job, then going to the location of the premises, photographing the place from different angles, then going on the web site and checking details etc and then attended the interview after concentrating on the pictures and myself working there that I got the job so know that a positive attitude, a strong unfaltering belief and persitance makes your odds almost 99 percent. I live in Australia and would really like to know by what means he made this prediction, many will say it was a fluke or he got the information on a delayed broadcast, because there are many people that do not try and therefore they are the firts to critisize. Well done Derren you have shown just how a strong belief and peserverence can succeed. Cheers Vernon

My actual first theory was that it DIDN'T say the numbers on the balls at all, just some unreadable blurry text, and by holding the really numbers above written on card ours minds trasnported the numbers onto the balls.

But it's not that.
