Derren Brown - The Events

MUST have done (and influenced those in the museum as well.)

Every advert had concentric circles in them. The whole show was littered with references to circles as well.

I thought it was really good and the reveal at the end was awesome.

Well there's circles everywhere, really. I don't think they controlled which ads were shown.

I wouldn't put it past them. I cut out the "Draw Concentric Circles" ad from the Evening Standard newspaper. I doubt many people were effected by that, it was next to all the sex chat adverts.

Tonight's was alright. When he went in the casino at the end I said "well, it's obviously a fake casino." Then he DIDN'T get it right, but was one number off, making you think "well, it's possible it was real and he got close!" But no, I think it was fake and if he'd got the exact number it would have been too obvious. I think the third episode was the best one.

^We had this discussion directly after the episode and both came to this conclusion. Given the wisdom of crowds theory if Fuddlemiff agrees we have definitely rumbled him.

He thought he could get one over on us, like he's some kind of illusionist!

Yeah, I'm sure it was all fake (well, "Ben", might've been real). When he got it wrong, for a split second I thought "oh, maybe it is real", but a second later I remembered what Paul Daniels said about the lotto prediction.

"He could get it exactly right ... [but] it is much better for a mentalist if he gets one wrong. It is more believable."

The casino was so fake it hurt.

So, mr Hustle expert, the casino's stop electronics getting in so that they don't have mini micro computers with tiny tiny keyboards?
Expert with bushy beard said:
Yes, that is right, can I have my money now?
Some time later

Here I am entering the casino with a hug fuck off camera up my jacksi, you can also see a massive cameraman on the balcony. Luckily we have managed to invent cameras WITH NO ELECTRONICS AT ALL!! They are made from carrots and cheese

Woah. Good point.

But how did he tell how fast the cars were going? Unless that was a FAKE Tim Westwood!?!

Fake Ben, fake woman in the audience too with the spray can.

Looked like they were both straight out of drama school and given the instruction "look shocked and surprised"

I mean if you look at any other show where they pick someone out of the studio audience, they might look a little shocked at first, but they usually quickly snap out of it and relax.

The alarm bells started ringing with Ben as soon as he got the phone call, I mean hes supposedly watching the show, which we know because he had to be asked to turn the volumn down for the feedback, we even see his telly which is a massive plasma, yet he doesnt realise its him on the tv until Derren mentions it, and even when he is told there is a camera outside his window, he never looks directly at it.

The ridiculous way he was put under was stupid too, are we meant to believe you can hypnotise someone instantly by telling them to look at their own hand?

I don't know about stealing money from the lottery or casinos, but he certainly knows how to steal money from channel four.

But it says at the start that he doesn't use actors or stooges. I know he also says he uses misdirection and showmanship, but I like to believe the thing about no actors or stooges is true. Otherwise he could just fake everything.

He does just fake everything.

I didn't mean it like that, I meant the people who chooses aren't in on it and are actually being tricked by the illusions...if the people who picks for his tricks are all stooges then that would disappoint me and would be one level of "fake" too much.

uGHGHHH I HATE IT.

THIS MAGICIAN IS DOING FAKE THINGS!!! TO ENTERTAIN US????????

WHAT

THE
FUUUCCKLLLLLLJKKKKK

I just keep remembering Penn and Teller years ago on saturday night live, where they were sat at a desk and kept throwing things up in the air that never came back down, and Penn kept yelling at the audience "are we live" and they would should back, "yes your live", "Is the camera filming us as we really are?" "Yes!".

Then eventually the camera pulled back enough to show they were strapped into chairs at an upside down table, and rather than throwing things up, they were just dropping them.

They were live, they didn't use a camera trick, technically they weren't lying, they just neglected to reveal the whole picture.

Now if Derren's stooges are straight out of acting school, and considering how ropey they were, I would imagine that's so, and if they were playing themselves, and had never been in anything else, technically they aren't actors, so the bit at the beginning where they say they don't use actors is true, from a certain point of view.

I've always thought it would be incredibly easy for the papers to track down these people and find out who they are and whether of not they are in fact actors/stooges.

They would have a vested interest in doing so because an exposé like that would sell big, especially with a big star like Derren Brown.

Also, anyone who has seen any of his live shows knows that he is not simply just a fake and does have some really incredible skills.

The Casino event was lacking and too much of it felt "fake" to me but it's unfair to judge his whole performing career, of which he is pretty damn storied in, on it alone.

After analysing my tea leaves for several seconds I can reveal the numbers will be as follows.

1 6 7 17 25 40 Bonus 15

And we know what the first 4 letters of the word "analysing" spell, do we not??

Also on his stage shows he has the audience toss a beanbag around to decide who to use in his tricks, to eliminate any possibility of stooges. I don't see why he'd have to use them on his tv show.

The guy picked for the casino thing did seem a bit weird, but maybe he was just a bit of a weirdo. His face was funny at the end when Derren got the wrong number.
