The Tenth Doctor will no longer be of any concern to us. I've just received word that the Emperor has dissolved the old TARDIS set permanently. The last remnants of RTD have been swept away."

SO BEGINS THE NEW ERA OF DOCTOR WHO. Series 5 (if you’re a normal person)/Series 1 (if you’re the production team) / Season 31 (if you’re cool).

Now under the helm of Steven “Remember me? I wrote the really good episodes? Yeah, those ones.” Moffat with Matt “I got arrested for carrying my sonic screwdriver through customs” Smith and Karen “I appear to be actually lovely in every way (and Scottish)” Gillian as Amy Pond (MAYBE HER MIDD NAME IS DUCK? BUT WHAT IS A DUCK POND… WITHOUT ANY DUCKS?)

WHAT WE WILL EXPECT FROM THE EPISODES THAT WILL BE COMING INTO OUR BRIANS VIA THE TELEVISION:

No time to rest and recover, no Tardis, no screwdriver – just six billion human beings about to die and only one man to save them. But the new Doctor encounters more than danger – this is the day he meets Amy Pond. Can he persuade her to trust him, when he's been letting her down all her life?

2. The Beast Below
Writer: Steven Moffat

3. Victory of the Daleks
Writer: Mark Gatiss

From the terrifying future of the United Kingdom to one of the darkest chapters of its past – World War Two. The Doctor and Amy find themselves in a top-secret cabinet war room deep beneath the London streets. And there, gliding among the nicotine walls and Bakelite telephones, the Daleks are hatching their deadliest scheme yet. Only one man can help the Doctor – whose side is Winston Churchill on?

4. The Time of Angels
5. Flesh and Stone
Writer: Steven Moffat
Guest Stars: Alex Kingston and Ian Glen
A two-part story. A crashed spaceship, a shattered temple and a terrifying climb through the maze of the dead – River Song is back in the Doctor's life, and she's brought more trouble than even he can handle. The last of the Weeping Angels is loose in the ruins of Alfava Metraxis, and the Doctor is recruited to track it down. "Dont Blink!" everyone tells Amy – but as Amy is about to discover, not blinking, might just be the worst thing you can do…

6. Vampires in Venice
Writer: Toby Whithouse
Guest Star: Helen McCrory
In Venice, even danger is beautiful. The House of Calvierri has the whole city under its protection, but something is very wrong. There are blood-drained corpses in the street, something lurks in the canal, and the Calvierri girls are the loveliest in town, except when you glance in the mirror…

7. Amy's Choice

Guest Star: Tony Curran
Terror lurks in the cornfields of Provence, but only a sad and lonely painter can see it. Amy Pond finds herself shoulder to shoulder with Vincent van Gogh, in a battle with a deadly alien – saving the world has never been so ginger! But can even the Doctor save Vincent?

And although the other threads have been throwing spoilers out like mad IF WE COULD KEEP ALL SPOILERS IN SPOILER CODE IN THIS THREAD (the thread where people will post about Doctor Who every week [I hope]) THEN THAT WOULD BE REALL COOL AND I’D LIKE YOU AS A PERSON. Obviously stuff about the show that has just aired are not spoilers so people in the us can suck it wait until it’s on BBC America (or download the episode).

So THAT’S ABOUT IT until the first episode starts (in HD too, HD fans) in about four and a half hours.

HOW VERY CONVENIENT , ISN’T IT??
THAT WHENEVER THE TARDIS MALFUNCTIONS IS ALWAYS MATERIALIZES JUST WHERE THERE’S A CRISIS BREWING!
IT’S SUCH A COIIIINCIDENCE!!

That.

Was.

AWESOME.

I pretty much had a grin on my face all the way through.

All doubts I had about Matt Smith are gone, I think he's great. Just quirky enough but not TOO quirky.

Amy Pond is EVEN LOVLIER THAN I THOUGHT and that's saying something!

EDIT: OH AND FUCKING PATRICK MOORE.

The writing was, as per usual Moffat, excellent. Funny but not in ways that distract from the drama, full of interesting ideas (this episode basically did what Smith and Jones did but BETTER).

And of course the bit with all the old Doctors and then Matt Smith. I love this show.

I love this show.

EDIT: OH AND FUCKING PATRICK MOORE

EDIT EDIT: This was good too:

First THE BAD

I didn't like the new theme tune

And now THE GOOD

I did like the visuals of the titles. And the story, which was a little bit Pan's Labyrinth (coincidence that C4 are showing it tonight? *raised eyebrow*). It was a relief to see a fully coherent, well written episode of Who after all this time. Reminded me of a good Sarah Jane two-parter. Matt Smith and Thingamy Thingan were both really good, as was the little Pond. The alien ships weren't as well done as they could've been, but the production team obviously had loads to do for this ep, so they can be forgiven. Got high hopes for the rest of the season. :)

I agree with the them was a bit duff for my, I expect itll change next season...

also agree the effects were a little below, but im guessing it will improve looking at the dalek /space spitfire, and cyberman planet future eps they already look above tonights efforts, so prob budget constraints....

all in all a refreshing change, liked the bit with the docs shown and he steps through tennents projection...

jolly good stuff, and I agree 100% with what you post...

There's a clean version of the theme music on the BBC site:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw/episodes/b00rs6t7/videos/p00765br

I think it'll grow on me, the intro is a bit strange and it's wierd that the version they played during the credits didn't have the middle eight.

Of course, and this is 100% speculation, it's possible that we might get a teaked or different opening titles next week as Moffat did say we'd see Matt Smith's face in the titles, and it could be that he wanted to leave that out of this episodes titles as he's not properly the Doctor yet (but probably not).

His face might have given away the clothes he was going to end up wearing, which I know the trailers and a million photos already have.

Good start, could have been better, but that just means it can get better, its when they blow you away with the first episode that the rest of the series finds itself with nowhere to go.

Shame the full series trailer showed River Song getting rescued by the Tardis, I prefared the uncertainty of her possibly getting killed because the Doctor had told her she couldn't die now as he had already seen her die.

Loved the finger clicking door opening, and the fact that its not all set in london.

The montage was great, as not only did we see all ten previous doctors, but old school monsters too, which is a first.

The start of the theme was weird. Like I thought "is this actually the theme?" weird. And there was that brief appearance by James Corden's face in the preview at the end.

BUT those are my only "complaints" really! I was pleasantly surprised by how good Matt Smith was because I thought he might need time to grow on me. But he seemed like the Doctor right from the start. Also I was worried he'd be a bit mubling and rambling based on his interviews but I could actually understand everything he said! Always a bonus.

Amy was lovely with her FIERCE eyes and her hair spun by Scottish angels. Rory was a lot better than Mickey was in his first episode. I laughed quite a few times (SUCH AS at the "not him, the good looking one" line.) AND PATRICK MOORE.

The preview had a lot of cool shit too.

I LIKED IT.

Fuck Dr. Who! The series sucks. The character sucks. I mean, a fucking telephone booth to travel through Time and Space? Get fucking real. About as dumb as the Americans and their Superman using a fucking telephone booth to change.

It's nice to know you can't understand a concept that children have been understanding for over 45 years.

Yeah, the doctor walking through the 10th image is the best possible way they could have said "this is my show now"
