You kidding? Go watch BSG's "Act of Contrition". Moore kept getting notes and mail from fans that BSG was too dark and gloomy. In the podcast for the episode, he states that just because people were asking for happy things, he killed off all those pilots in the middle of what might have been a happy episode. Seriously, he listened to the fans in aspects that truly mattered, but he didn't like people telling him how he should be doing things.

To paraphrase, "you want happy endings and shiny moments? How about we have a happy moment and then completely destroy it by killing everyone?"

That episode was fucking spectacular, too.

Raping someone with a bloody stump is the latter.

Besides, as it was a directorial decision to have to song in the end credits, and not a 'for the fans' decision, surely it renders your point moot?
