Happy Weekend TKers

Well, at the time they entered law school, the market was great guns for lawyers. By the time they graduated, the economy took a hit and we slid into the depressions we've been mired in since 2008. Still, there are many young people who still want to become lawyers and voice plans to enter law school. Actually, the computer tech field is a better option.

Sunday evenings are sad. Tomorrow is the beginning of another work week. *sigh* We really need three-day weekends.

*sigh* I miss work weeks. Its weird but I envy the employed. Free time is more special and enjoyable I bet when you've done something to earn it.

Yes, Loktar, I handled the Tentative Rulings for the three civil departments' law and motion calendar, took care of temporary judge stuff, and other amazing stuff, etc.

I'm getting old and tired. I want to retire, but no can do. But, you do need a job. Are you qualified for anything? What did you do in the past when you were employed?

Retail/customer service, dishwasher, call center and food service(failed 3 week stint a Dunkin' Donuts).

Okay, I'll "bite" how did you fail three weeks at Dunkin' Donuts?

Let's just say I was bad at my job/quickly discovered I wasn't cut out for the fast food industry. I was still being "trained" when I quit. Plus they kept promising me I'd be left by myself for some shifts which they never did. I was always stuck with my power tripping trainer that got worse when they made him a manager. Plus the hours were shitty(10PM-6AM). And I discovered they don't make their own donuts, but the do make their own bagels(wtf?). The donuts are sitting out for almost 24 hours before the truck arrives with the fresh ones. Ewww...I thought the donuts were fresher than that.

There is a Shipley's near where I work. I used to get my morning coffee and kolaches there. They made their own donuts - watched them making them. I don't go there anymore. Wonder if they are still in business.

Krispy Kreme makes their own donuts too. They have a big production behind glass for the customer to view. When they first opened here the line of cars was down the street for a few blocks all hours of the day and night. I think they put crack in their donuts when they first opened.

Hmmmm. . .well, working at crappy, low paying fast food places tends to attack meglo-maniacal manager types who would probably be fragged by their troups if they were in the Army. Not that you don't find this persoonality type in the corporate world.

What do you like to do, Lok. What are gifted with? Is there something that you really like doing?

I like retail, helping/being useful to others, cooking(though I think I don't have the passion needed to succeed like the "amateur home cooks" on MasterChef or the skilled professionals on Top Chef), acting/stand-up comedy(but I lack the confidence, self-esteeem, the funny to succeed there), reading sci-fi/fantasy, and long walks on the beach(lol).

My mom once told me I had a good voice and should be a voice actor but recently I mentioned that and she said I should focus on reality instead of on dreams. She also thinks I should go into a career in the healthcare industry because "Thats where the big bucks are." She also thinks I should go back to Price Chopper where I stupidly quit 10 years ago and try and get a job there.

Yeah, I'm with you, Lok. Being cheerful all damn day long with a forced smile plastered on your face, well, after awhile you begin to look maniacal. There's still a lot you can do with a butter knife. Gawd, and the kids running around, screaming so loud with their high pitched squeals that can readjust your back. Nope, restaurants are not a good bet.

What about a job in construction? There's always the fall back position by going into one of the military branches. Have you thought of checking out jobs for your county, state or court system? They may still have retirement benefits if Chris Christy isn't your governor.

Construction: No. Need a year round job indoors. Don't want a job that consists of freezing my ass off in a blizzard to hold a road sign.

Military: Tried getting a clerical job there before. No luck.

County/State/Court: Had a State job(Tax Collection) failed at it, trying to get another one at the DMV or DOL but there is a hiring freeze on in NY state. Tried county too.

Currently: Plan on trying to get back to my old place of employment Price Chopper. Probably end up part-time but hopefully will find full time through luck and internal job postings.

Thought about moving away from New York, mebbe coming down south or the west? Hmmmm????! Might be interesting, might be right up your alley, might even be a whole new world opening up for you. Gotta go where the jobs are, if they can be found.

Well, now that the above dream is over. . .

I dunno, the military might still be a good option. I think they will take you up to age 35.
You've got a degree, maybe going back to school, get another degree in computer science.

I dunno about hospital work. . .you have to touch all those strangers with diseases. *shudder* It takes a special kind of person to work the hospital angle.

I say you get a degree in Business Administration and then go to work for a big hospital in the admin office. There, that sounds pretty good and solid: desk job, health benefits, wearing a button down shirt and tie and working in the billing department, or HR office. Making life and death decisions about some fellow employee's job security -- was that really sexual harassment or was he just being friendly?

If you got yourself buff, you could become a cop. They give you a car and gun. But then, the other guy has a gun and a knife.

You could go bad and become a cat burglar. No, too much stress and you have to have a side degree in lock picking and window forcing.

How about a consultant? I don't have a clue what they do, but it sounds impressive on a business card. Speaking of business cards, what about a job in a copy company like Kinko's that we have in the west coast.

What about a bank job? No, not doing a bank job, but working in a bank. You're sorta good with math aren't you? Shirt, tie and dress slacks and black polished shoes. . .sound tempting?

Study the law and become a paralegal! I'd give you all the inside skinny on how evil lawyers are, and eloisel can tell you about the benefits.

How about becoming a private tutor? You could do a great job for those homeschooled kids. The ones who are 15 going on 55? They are usually well behaved and eager to learn.

You didn't say anything about applying at the court system. Is there a court near you where you could check out their website and see what's available?

Military is out then, I'm 39.
Yeah did try for local court clerk job(forgot that in previous post)
Bank is also out, I suck at math. Plus I've applied to be a teller numerous times.
Hospitals...needles...no.
Cop...Too old...Donut temptation too strong.
Law...I'd get too depressed/streesed when I lost a case.
Tutor...high probability of sexual harassment...low probability of hot women.
Business Admin...trying to avoid incurring more debt.

At some point you have to quit kidding yourself that you want a job. Maybe you should try starting your own business. Is there anything you can do you might be able to get someone to pay you to do?
