This is Mariner 10. It was the first probe to explore the planet Mercury - which it did WAY back in 1974.

Now you may ask, "Now Charlemagne, what in God's name does THIS have to do with sports?" The answer? Not a Goddamn thing. It's just that this little tidbit of information is still infinitely more useful and worth sharing than whatever the fuck Blackfoot tries doing in this forum.

Cowboys can still make playoffs but don't look like title contenders
The last time the Cowboys beat a team with a winning record at the time they played them in the regular season was Week 13 last year against the Saints. The Cowboys are just good enough to be good enough, but through nine games, they are not true contenders. Not with a loss to New Orleans, who were without quarterback Drew Brees. Not with a loss to Green Bay, who were without wide receiver Davante Adams.

.

Michael Bennett: Trade did not include talk with Jerry Jones about anthem

Defensive lineman Michael Bennett said his trade to the Dallas Cowboys did not include a conversation with owner and general manager Jerry Jones regarding standing for the national anthem before the acquisition became official. Bennett has stood on the sideline for his first two games with the Cowboys after staying in the locker room during the anthem when he was with the New England Patriots. Bennett told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram he is standing for the anthem because his teammates asked him to. In 2018 with the Eagles, Bennett also remained in the locker room, but he has made exceptions in the past. In 2017, he stood on the sideline during Veterans Day weekend and the NFL's Salute to Service while he was with the Seahawks because his protest against racial inequality and injustice was not related to any disrespect to the military.

Playoffs? Cowboys' path looks to be through the NFC East only
The Cowboys have had four major NFC tests this season and passed only one, beating Philadelphia on Oct. 20, which is the only reason the Cowboys are atop their division rival in the standings. Chances of claiming a wild-card spot have taken a hit because of their conference losses, including the head-to-head matchup with Minnesota. The Cowboys' final seven opponents have a combined record of 32-30-1. They have to play at Detroit, at New England, at Chicago and at Philadelphia. They play 6-3 Buffalo on Thanksgiving and the 5-4 Los Amgeles Rams at AT&T Stadium.

Big Picture For The Dallas Cowboys & The Detroit Lions

Detroit Lions:
In Stafford’s absence, the Lions turned to Jeff Driskel, a fourth-year pro who was in the same 2016 draft class as Dak Prescott. Driskel, a sixth-round pick of the 49ers, has only started six career games, including five last year with the Bengals before Sunday’s game in Chicago. Driskel went 27 of 46 for 269 yards with a touchdown and an interception against the Bears. Kenny Golladay leads the NFL in touchdown catches with eight, one ahead of Dallas’ Amari Cooper. Golladay has four TD catches in the last three games, including the Lions’ only touchdown last week in Chicago. One storyline that likely won’t affect the game but is something many in the Lions organization are dealing with is the sudden death of former receiver Charles Rogers. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft,

Dallas Cowboys
There should be a change in the starting lineup this week at left guard. Xavier Su’a-Filo is expected to start in place of Connor Williams, who will have microscopic surgery on his left knee. Williams should only be out 2-4 weeks and had a similar surgery on his right knee last year. The Cowboys’ 5-4 record is head-scratching when you look at the statistics. The Cowboys still have a healthy lead in the rankings for No. 1 offense in the NFL. The team is averaging 437.4 yards per game, and ranks seventh in the NFL in total defense, yielding just 323.2 yards per game. The team also ranks sixth in scoring at 27.9 points a contest. The Cowboys remain in first place in the NFC East, tied with the Eagles at 5-4. The Cowboys hold the current tiebreaker advantage with the victory over Philly on Oct. 20, but of course, the two teams will meet again on Dec. 22.

3 & Out: It’s Time To Stop This Dak Narrative.....
Dak. Amari. Red Zone.

Dallas Cowboys Player Stats 2019

Wide receiver Amari Cooper (knee, ankle) politely declined to speak to the media Friday but he did say he is good to go for Sunday's game at Detroit, which is all anybody wanted to probably know anyway.

Robert Quinn wished good luck to Colin Kaepernick on the quarterback's workout Saturday, but is dismayed it has reached this point. “Took his team to the Super Bowl, Pro Bowl … For him to go through all what he had to go through for making a stand, which the media took it and ran and put him in this situation,” Quinn said, “it's kind of embarrassing to America that this guy has got to go reprove himself over making a stand for something that still hasn't been confronted in today's world.”

Right tackle La'el Collins is on the practice field for the first time this week, which is a sign he will play Sunday at Detroit despite a back injury. Wide receiver Amari Cooper (knee) is also expected to go through a second straight limited practice and be available Sunday. It is looking like safety Jeff Heath (shoulders) will not play this week.

At 5-4, the Cowboys are at a crucial point in the season where they have to start stringing together wins, like they did a year ago when they finished 10-6. Dak Prescott is confident it will turn around. “No concerns,” Prescott said. “They're going to flip and when we get them flipping, this team, these players, the character of these men, there's no doubt it's going to go the right way.”

Ezekiel Elliott's message to Cowboys: 'It's on us to turn it around'
Entering Sunday's 1 p.m. ET game against the Detroit Lions , the Cowboys remain in first place in the NFC East based on their undefeated division record, but Elliott said he is not surprised his team is in this position. Since Week 4, only the Cincinnati, NY Giants, Washington, Atlanta and Lions have a worse record than Dallas (2-4) after their 3-0 start.
