Cowboys' Micah Parsons feels bad for Zack Martin, veteran players

After Sunday's loss dropped the Dallas Cowboys to 3-6, pass rusher Micah Parsons was asked what he would tell people wondering whether Mike McCarthy would be the head coach in 2025. "That's above my pay grade, if Mike's coach again next year," Parsons said. "All coaching aside, Mike can leave and go where he wants to. Guys I kind of feel bad for is guys like Zack Martin and guys who might be on their last year, on their way out, because that's who I wanted to hold the trophy for.

Martin, 33, is the longest-tenured Cowboy, a first-round pick in 2014 and a nine-time Pro Bowler. He is tied for the most first-team All-Pro selections in franchise history (7) with Hall of Famers Bob Lilly and Randy White. He is in the final year of his contract and battled through ankle and shoulder injuries for most of the season. McCarthy is in his 18th year as an NFL head coach and has 170 regular-season wins and a Super Bowl victory to his credit. He helped the Cowboys to three straight 12-5 seasons in 2021-23 but could not advance past the divisional round. McCarthy is in the final year of his contract. Not only is McCarthy on the final year of his deal but so is the entire coaching staff.

Jones said he would take into consideration all of the factors of what has gone wrong this season, including the number of injuries. Parsons returned to the lineup against the Eagles after missing four games with a high ankle sprain. "There's a lot of options," Jones said when asked about other options for change. "Whether or not they change the equation for the positive, that's the issue. And so there's a lot of things you can do differently, but that wouldn't necessarily bring a positive result."

Dak Prescott planning to have season-ending surgery, sources say
Prescott is flying to New York early next week to meet with the specialist, but Cowboys doctors and trainers already believe he needs the surgery that would sideline him for four months, sources said. If the specialist agrees with that assessment, the surgery is scheduled to take place Wednesday.

Cowboys' Dak Prescott to have season-ending surgery, Jones says

The season is over for Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Speaking on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Tuesday, owner and general manager Jerry Jones confirmed Prescott will have surgery to repair the partial avulsion of his hamstring in New York on Wednesday. Prescott flew to New York on Monday to visit with a specialist all the while understanding that surgery would be the most likely outcome. After Sunday's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Prescott said he wanted to make sure this would not be an issue that affected him in the future.

This is the second time in the past five seasons Prescott has been unable to finish the season because of injury. In 2020, he suffered a dislocation and compound fracture of his right ankle in the fifth game of the season. Prescott, 31, will finish this season with 1,978 yards passing, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions. In September, Prescott signed a four-year, $240 million extension with the Cowboys that made him the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history. This will be the fourth surgery he has had since 2020. He missed five games in 2022 because of a broken right thumb and after that season he had surgery on his left shoulder.

The Cowboys will place Prescott on injured reserve, creating a roster spot, but they have signed Will Grier to the practice squad to have three quarterbacks available. Cooper Rush will make his second straight start in Monday's game against the Houston Texans, backed up by Trey Lance. Grier was with the Cowboys in 2021-22 before his release before the 2023 season. Most recently he had been on the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad. Prescott, 31, will finish this season with 1,978 yards passing, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
