Dak Prescott threw a franchise-record 37 touchdown passes last season. That said, is it possible that Prescott who just enjoyed a fully healthy offseason, another year removed from that devastating ankle injury in 2020 will run a little bit more than he did last season.

Camp prediction: Sam Williams will claim the starting defensive end spot opposite DeMarcus as Randy Gregory's replacement. The Cowboys' second-round pick has all of the pass-rushing tools defensive coordinator Dan Quinn loves to work with -- speed around the edge, the ability to bend, solid hands. Dorance Armstrong and Dante Fowler Jr. have more NFL know-how, and while being a "starter" can be overrated since Quinn likes to rotate his defensive linemen, Williams' talent will get him on the field early. Look for him to come close to matching Gregory's six sacks from 2022.

Time for the Cowboys to end a 26-season Super Bowl drought. Time for Prescott to make his first Super Bowl run. And time for McCarthy to take them both to the heights GM/owner Jerry Jones desired when he made McCarthy the ninth head coach in team history on Jan. 8, 2020. Signed to a five-year deal, this is a critical season for McCarthy, who is 18-15 in his first two seasons with the Cowboys. McCarthy was brought to Dallas to do what the five previous Cowboys head coaches couldn’t: get to a Super Bowl. (The Cowboys haven't won a divisional playoff game since 1995.) The Joneses thought -- and perhaps still think -- they gave him a Super Bowl-ready team.The last Cowboys coach to deliver back-to-back playoff seasons was Chan Gailey in 1998-99, and he did not make it to a third season.

Jerry Jones says Dallas Cowboys 'need to be viable' in playoffs for it to be successful season​


Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones turns 80 in October. Jones' team has gone 26 seasons without a Super Bowl, and he expresses an urgency when he meets with coaches. Jones said he feels better about the Cowboys, who have not made playoff appearances in consecutive years since 2006-07 and haven't made it consecutively with the same head coach since 1998-99 (Chan Gailey), at the opening of training camp in 2022 than he did last July.The Cowboys finished 12-5 last season and won the NFC East but lost in the wild-card round of the playoffs to the San Francisco 49ers. In the offseason, they traded Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns, released right tackle La'el Collins and lost pass-rusher Randy Gregory to the Denver Broncos in free agency while not making any big-name or high-cost additions.

Dallas Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott not feeling pressure over contract, future with team​


With no guaranteed money on Ezekiel Elliott's contract beyond 2022, many wonder if this is his last year with the Dallas Cowboys. Elliott is not one of those wondering. Elliott's $12.4 million base salary is fully guaranteed as part of the $90 million extension he signed in 2019. The Cowboys have an easier path financially to move on from him in 2023 because there is no more guaranteed money in his contract. He is set to make $10.9 million in 2023. Elliott's per-game rushing average has dropped each season, from 108.7 yards per game in 2016, his rookie year, to 58.9 in 2021. With Elliott and Tony Pollard, the Cowboys believe they have one of the best running back tandems in the NFL. Pollard had a career-high 719 yards on 130 carries last year. He also caught 39 passes for 337 yards, which has led some to call for a more equitable split in touches.

Dallas Cowboys sign WR/KR KaVontae Turpin, USFL MVP​


The Dallas Cowboys signed receiver and kick returner KaVontae Turpin on Thursday. Turpin was MVP of the United States Football League with the New Jersey Generals this spring after that league completed its first regular season since 1985. The 25-year-old led the league in receiving yards and had the only kick return for a touchdown. While playing for the Generals, Turpin led the USFL with 540 receiving yards in 10 games, with a league-best 316 of those yards coming after the catch.
