Are Dallas Cowboys improved after franchise-high eight free agents signed?
That's expansive. Not expensive. Collectively, that group will count $12.712 million against the salary cap. Neal has the largest signing bonus at $3 million. Basham has the highest cap figure at $2.5 million. Kearse, Kazee and McQuaide are on minimum-salary benefit contracts.

Cowboys agree to one-year deals with TE Jeremy Sprinkle, punter Bryan Anger
Sprinkle, 26, spent his first four seasons with Washington and has 34 catches for 301 yards and three touchdowns in his career. Anger, 32, was released by the Houston Texans last month. He averaged 46.4 yards per punt with a 41.8-yard net average in 2020.

Super Bowl drought at 25, what were the Dallas Cowboys' best chances?
There was a time in the 1990s when Cowboys fans could legitimately think of a championship parade in downtown Dallas without a smirk. The Cowboys had Super Bowl-winning seasons in 1992 and 1993, went to the NFC Championship Game in 1994, and won their third Super Bowl in four years in the 1995 season.

Senior Bowl executive director and ESPN draft analyst Jim Nagy worked with Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn in Seattle and believes Patrick Surtain II would be an ideal fit. “I know what he likes in his corners. I've sat in draft meetings with him,” Nagy said. “I haven't talked to Dan specifically this draft cycle about Patrick but he is that style of corner. We used to call them, ‘Seahawk corners.' He has that kind of guy. He definitely has the tools that Dan would be looking for.”

Cowboys defensive back Rashard Robinson has been suspended the first two games of the 2021 season for violating the performance enhancing drug policy. Robinson appeared in four games for the Cowboys last season, making three starts.

A large number of Cowboys continue to work out at The Star with Phase 1 of the offseason program starting Monday, according to sources. While players on other teams have said they will skip the voluntary work due to safety concerns regarding the pandemic, there has been no announcement from Cowboys players through the NFLPA. More than 25 players had been working out at The Star prior to Monday before the start of the official program. Meetings of up to two hours a day are being held virtually.

Second-round jinx? Draft success has eluded Dallas Cowboys too often

Trevon Diggs was confident entering his rookie season with the Dallas Cowboys. Nothing that happened in 2020 changed the cornerback's mind. For all of the attention the Cowboys' first-round pick, No. 10 overall in the 2021 NFL draft (April 29-May 1 in Cleveland, on ESPN and ESPN the App), has garnered this offseason, a team's successful draft is determined by the entirety of its selections. A second-round pick has to not only be a starter, but also develop into a cornerstone player, which means a significant second contract most of the time. The Cowboys currently have one second-round pick in this year's draft, No. 44 overall. Hall of Famer Larry Allen, an offensive lineman who spent 12 seasons in Dallas, was the No. 46 overall pick in 1994. Defensive back Darren Woodson is in the Ring of Honor after being a second-round pick in 1992. The Cowboys drafted three tight ends in the second round in 2006 (Anthony Fasano), 2008 (Martellus Bennett) and 2013 (Gavin Escobar) to pair with Jason Witten.

Dallas Cowboys LB Sean Lee retires after 11 seasons

After 11 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, linebacker Sean Lee has decided to retire. A second-round pick in 2010 out of Penn State, Lee was a two-time Pro Bowl selection (2015, 2016) and the unquestioned leader of the defense for most of his career. Injuries marked Lee's time with the Cowboys, but when healthy he was one of the best linebackers in the NFL. The 34-year-old led the Cowboys in tackles in 2011 and 2015-17, and he owns five of the top seven tackle games in team history, including a record 22 vs. the Giants in 2016. He also had 14 career interceptions, returning two of them for touchdowns; 5 fumble recoveries; 2 forced fumbles; 59 tackles for loss; and 4 sacks. He was credited with 995 tackles for his career, good for eighth in team history. He averaged 8.4 tackles per game, the most among the top 10 tacklers in team history. Darren Woodson, who is the franchise leader with 1,350, averaged 7.6 tackles per game.

Philadelphia Eagles trade up with Dallas Cowboys
Thwarted in their bids to take a cornerback, the Cowboys traded their 10th pick and got back the 12th pick as well as the Eagles' third-round pick. The Cowboys were high on cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Patrick Surtain, who went to Carolina and Denver at Nos. 8 and 9, respectively.

Cowboys draft picks: 1 (12) – Micah Parsons, LB 2 (44) – Kelvin Joseph, CB 3 (75) – Osa Odighizuwa, DT 3 (84) – Chauncey Golston, DL 3 (99) – Nahshon Wright, CB They have six picks in Rounds 4-7 on Saturday – Nos. 115, 138, 179, 192, 227, 238.

Defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa figures he had three pre-draft interactions with the Cowboys and said they were the only team to call him back for an interview after the Senior Bowl but he was slightly surprised he was their pick. “They are a vertical attack, knockback, reset the line of scrimmage, get up the field and be in the backfield, and that is the style that I like to play with as well,” he said. “That is a great fit for me.” He believes he can play in any spot across the line.

After allowing a franchise-record 473 points last year, the Cowboys knew they had to look at their defense. Their first five picks have been on the defensive side of the ball, a first in the Jerry Jones' era and a first since 1982. What's the message? “That we're going to bring some more life, more turnovers and definitely we'll get a sixth championship,” said third-round pick Nahshon Wright.

The Cowboys continue their defensive bent with Oregon State cornerback Nahshon Wright as their third third-round pick of the night, No. 99 overall. Wright fits the profile of what coordinator Dan Quinn looks for in a corner at 6-4. He had two productive seasons in the Pac-12 with five interceptions and 11 pass breakups. Most draft prognostications had Wright as a third-day pick. It's the first time since 1982, the Cowboys have taken a defensive player with their first five
