Can I have Ops?
Only about 2 years behind everyone else, but finally I have been loaned a copy of Series 1.

I plan to do a complete review of every episode in this thread. But then again I might get bored and just post GOOD EPISODE, not sure.

Anyway - finally SQUUUEEEEEEEEE!

Enjoy dude, watch it all in one sitting with lots of vallium and lots of pot, thats what I did and it was Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I was late to the party too... it takes HBO about a year after airing their shows to finally release the fecking DVDs but in this case, it was worth the wait.

You can torrent them, but they always turn out to be someone sitting on their couch with a cam pointed at the tv

I watched Dredd at the weekend and was pleased to see Lena Headey do her Cersei face throughout the entire movie.

Episode 1 - Review

Overall
Have to be say, I have a slight post coital slump after watching this. There is an inevitable "introduction of characters" which made them all a little two dimensional. I suppose my reading the books before means I have had more detail.

I used the term post coital as to be frank there was quite a large amount of sex involved (and TITS) This left me a little cold as generally I act like most suppressed British males when shown graphic sex scenes. As in (as Boy George said) a nice cup of tea is often better.

There was a lot that was good, in general anything involving the Starks was delivered very well. I also thought Mark Addy did well as Robert - not an easy part to play with some sympathy.

I will now do a review by House shown:

1. Starks
Stand outs were Arya, Jon Snow and Bran. Sansa and the others didn't have a lot of screen time but look promising. I thought Sean Bean did well in showing a man tortured by loyalty. The bedroom scene between him and Catelyn was excellent and showed the casting was well thought out.

The execution / direwolf introduction scene was handled well, with the direwolf scene being particularly interesting as it was shot on a heavy slope with the camera pointing upwards. This allowed us to see all the male children and the posturing of Theon Greyjoy (also well played)

2. Lannisters
A major disappointment to me was Cersei and Jaime. I thought they were both wooden and emotionless. I understand coming from this house that is a trait, but I kept feeling they were going to be showing some of the inner torment they were undergoing. In particular the doggie scene was just a bit dirty, not really the passion of brother and sister. I also thought that great line from the book "the things I do" was delivered with all the grace of a 2nd class parcel. Not great.

Tyrion's initial "he likes whores" scene was also disappointing, however his discussion with Jon Snow showed what he can be and bodes well for the future.

Joffrey looked quite good actually, I thought he held the regal wanker pose quite well.

3. Targaryen
I thought the lines they gave Viserys were poor, but then again in the book I struggled with his character. The acting was fine, but I always wondered why he was still petulant after being chucked out of his country. Lots of bouncing breasts again in the wedding scenes, call me a prude but a bit unnecessary. Thankfully the virginity gone scene with Danys was actually handled very well. Funny how the most brutal sex scene in the book was handled with such care in the series. I also thought that Khal Drogo was played with some sensitivity and some great scenes with him are to follow I am sure.

The Wall
Not a house, but just loved the scenes involving the wall. I imagined it smooth, rather than an ice cliff - but not matter they really gave it an ominous, foreboding feel that set the scene for the future.

Cliff Notes:
1. Giving them the benefit of the doubt as they had so many characters to introduce.
2. No more tits or doggie please - I'm British!
3. Jamie is particularly shit so far - hope he gets better
4. Starks and "the North" are brilliant - can't wait for more of them

as Cable has fewer censors than the big networks, they can get away with more T & A and so they throw it in everything. It's become almost de rigueur, IMHO.
