How long does it take a cat to die?

rainbow_bridge.jpg

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor.
Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;
they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I'm so sorry. Losing a long-time family member like that can always be hard. You have my sympathies. I know exactly how you feel. MSN me if you'd like to talk.

Thank you everyone. I feel bad at the title of this thread, its my way of dealing with it, I tried to make it more light hearted, but it still ended up being pretty sucky yesterday when it all happened.
She lived almost 20 years, she had a good life.

In my mind, it went alot different when it came time to let her go and say goodbye and bury her. I really thought it would be so much easier. We made a nice grave for her tho, my house is empty, feels strange, but when I think about the last months of her life and how she really wasn't living at all, anyway.
Maybe her ghost will haunt me from her grave.

Don't feel bad about it. She was a member of your family and a part of your life for 20 years. You shouldn't have to deal with it alone.

So, those are her Xrays huh? I'm not sure what I'm looking at. Do they show anything wrong?

I am assuming it would be cancer. cancer and other dense objects (bones...) show up as white on x-rays. mostly organs do not show up.

I am very sorry to hear about your cat! You are very lucky to have had her for 20 years!!! that is phenomenal!!! You must have taken care of her very well. I hope you are beginning to feel better!!!

aw, LC, I'm sorry I didnt see this thread sooner.
She was very well taken care of to have lived 20 years! Good for you!
The love between you is so obvious in that beautiful pic:
A thing of beauty is a joy forever.

Commiserations on your loss. *biiiiig hug*
If there's some kind of afterlife, your cat will have a lot of fun now, playing with Wilma the hamster and a dozen of my rats. (Well, knowing my rats, they'll certainly be the ones to have the fun. I'm not so sure about any cat that would put up with them ;) )

{{{{{{{LC}}}}}}}{{{{{{{DP}}}}}}} hope you'll feel better soon. It sounds cruel, but in my experience the best you can do is get a new pet asap. That'll help you deal with the loss. How about a cute kitty from a pet asylum?

Thank you Mistress. Thank you Mrs No Manners, Thanks Pickle. I don't think I will be getting a pet any time soon. I have had pets all of my life, a little bit of freedom for a while is nice. I have plenty of friends and family with pets that I can watch or house sit or borrow for the day! : )

now, is that one of the local BS-rules that new accounts can not give positive karma or is it just one of the innumerous bugs of this board? Every time I want to give you positive karma it returns a meh-smilie
