Hunger Games

I was right about the final part being action packed...

The effects on the mutant things seem to have improved a lot!

I finally watched Hunger Games 4: Still Hungry today. Maybe I put it off because I heard it was really grim and long. It was definitely very grim and long! They split the third book into two movies (as I no doubt pointed out earlier in this thread) and it shows especially in the first half of the film where there's a lot of conversations and speeches that seem to cover the same ground. They're all well acted and I didn't get overly bored, but it could have been cut down on a bit. So yes, it's very grim and I do respect that they stuck to the grimness of the books (even THAT death.) Maybe the grimness could have been just as effective if it had been shorter or just if the final book had been one movie? Just putting it out there! Jena Malone manages to be grim but in a fun, amusing way, but she isn't in it very much. There aren't many other moments other than her appearances that give a break from the relentlessly grim tone (even Woody doesn't get any funny lines and again is barely in it.)

As far as action goes, we still don't see anything of the larger war. Like the books it sticks entirely with Katniss and I think it could have cut away to show what else was going on a few times. I'm sure they had the budget for it. The whole action scene in the sewers with the mutants is great but that's about it for memorable action. Donald Sutherland was good. Trident guy got to use his trident (before dying horribly!) Natalie Dormer looks hot with that hair. I guess it was having "who can give Gwedoline Christie the fewest lines" contest with The Force Awakens?

Anyway, it is a good film on the whole, even if some of it's a bit of an endurance test. Nobody will reply to this because I waited too long to watch it so I guess that's the end of this thread.
