I know it's wrong, but I just can't help it.

I'm not wearing any panties!!
So.... this fall the Boeing Machinists Union decided that since the company had finally recovered from the 2001 airmarket downturn, and was now profitable (although hadn't paid off debts incurred in the inbetween years) that now was a good time to strike:

On Saturday, November 1, 2008, members of the union ratified the contract, ending the eight-week strike.

....

The strike cost the union members an average of $7000.00 in base pay and cost the company $100 million per day in revenue and penalties with a postponement of the delivery of aircraft. Boeing has a $350 billion dollar backlog.

Well guess what? Maybe when the economy was going in the shitter, it's not a good idea to go on strike even if your particular sector hasn't been hit yet.

Boeing announced today that there will be an additional 5500 jobs cut in addition to the 4500 put out three weeks ago.

The Machinists Union's response:

IT'S NOT MY FAULT.... IT'S NOT MY FAULT!!!!!!

Boeing finds it easy to blame a two-year delay in getting the 787 off the ground on our 57-day strike. They will never admit it was poor management decisions or a business model that failed miserably which caused the first loss in revenue in recent years. Had they compromised a little on the contract, respected their workforce and negotiated fairly, they could have avoided a strike. Boeing could have continued on with their record making profits for 2008, but they chose a take it or leave-it attitude rather than negotiating in good faith.

Yeah, your strike and the complete shutdown of production in the 4th quarter, had nothing to do with Boeing posting losses in the fourth quarter...

Now as bad as news as that is..... here's what brings a smile to my face.

Both the Machinists and SPEEA, the company's engineers union, say Boeing should lay off contractors before union members.

PLEASE, PLEASE DON'T FIRE US! WE DIDN'T MEAN IT, HONEST!

Fucking unions. They are a tick, sucking the lifeblood of businesses (and the economy) dry. The only thing I regret about them all losing their jobs is that they'll wind up dragging the rest of us down with them.

My business has changed since the first week of the strike. Alot of people are going down as a result of that strike, the lay off the economy.

Boeing was *in* on the strike. Their ever-delayed 787 (or whatever number it is)? There is/was a clause in the purchase contracts that stipulated an additional two years of production time if a strike occurred. Boeing wanted the strikes. The workers wanted the strikes (because they didn't know any better) and the union leaders did not want the strikes.

Did you get this from Labor Neighbor News? I've never heard that.

And without unions you end up with companies like Wal-Mart that totally screw the people that work for them.

I hope you live in Minnesota. I belong to the LELS union. Our governors plan to cut the budget deficit is to start cutting law enforcement, fire and emergency services. Right now the union is the only thing stopping him.

Face it, without unions in this country, capitalist corporate America would have created far more poverty than currently exists. And there would be only a handful of super wealthy.

Fucking proles.

Wal*Mart is wonderful. They help people to save money while living better. In fact a recent study named Wal*Mart the #1 retail brand in America. http://www.brandweek.com/bw/content...staurants/e3i4b1f65d4346868999ee992dc25ab587c

Of course it did.

It's the epitome of the corporate AND conservative mentality in this country. 'I've got mine'.

Wal-Mart undercuts other retailers and seriously hurts their business. It can do it because it pays it's workers shitty wages, cheats them out of medical benefits, retirement, even hours worked. It moves into an area, destroys the local economy and job market, then bails for new locations.

It's also a major employer of illegal aliens. Good way to screw the employees and not worry about it being reported.

Wow. That literally gave me chills. The idea that there is an identical ideological twin to Liet out there--just one board over--is a little creepy.

Wal*Mart is great. Wal*Mart is wonderful. I can buy a toaster there for $7. And maybe it'll last me a year. Maybe it'll last a day. But it makes toast. And it is $7. Even if I don't feel like dealing with the hassle of returning it, it's a $7 toaster. I can buy one every 6 weeks or so and still come out ahead.

Wal*Mart provides jobs to people that no one else would want and gives the ones who are willing to work hard the skills to succeed and move up the job market to bigger and better things. It gives working class families affordable shoes and clothing. It gives them tools, furniture and housewares; home improvement, and automotive--all at great prices. There are computers for people who would otherwise not be able to afford them, tvs, stereos, and MP3 players. There are great movies on DVD at dirt-cheap prices.

Wal*Mart is wonderful. It will single-handedly prevent a second Great Depression and in 2011 Zombie Sam Walton will be awarded the Nobel Prize for Awesomeness. :techman:

Unions are good as long as they're balanced to protect against fat-cat corporate CEOs. Unions are bad when they're unbalanced in favor of communistic working class leeches.

Fine line.

If you're too stupid and lazy to get a decent education and thus a decent job, you deserve to work at Wal-mart and live like a fucking animal.

Poor people suck. Fuck them anyways.

I like how TKaptain Corruption considers giving a person a job and paying them a wage commensurate to their experience and abilities as "totally screw[ing]" them. :cylon:

Right up until the nobel prize I was in total agreement. I hope he wouldn't accept it!

The Nobel Prize for Awesomeness and Win (The full official title of the award) is handed out by Chuck Norris. Failure to accept this proud honor will result in your instant death in the most Awesome way possible, a Chuck Norris Roundhouse Kick.

Chuck Norris doesn't bestow the Nobel Prize for Awesomeness and Win. He just lets you borrow it until someone better comes along.

Wow, what an elitist prick you are.

I hope people that work in customer service positions like those spit in your morning coffee and hock a luggie in the burgers you buy. Cocksuckers like you deserve it.

If it wasn't for people doing those jobs, you might have to actually get off your better than thou fat ass and get your hands dirty.

Everyone deserves to make a living wage. Wal-Mart doesn't even pay that. And they actually cut their 'full time' employees hours off at 35 hours a week so they can skate by federal laws.

I've noticed that Unions in the US generally do a pretty shitty job. I used to be with the Local 555, and they were spineless at my company, but sure could collect their dues. My boss was a bitch, got many complaints. Union said 'Can't do anything'.

Unions in France, however...

Oh, and WalMart sucks donkey ass.
