I wish I could be a Christian

CaptainWacky

I want to smell dark matter
A good one like Jethro or Tolkein, not an evil hypocritcal gay hating one. I think I'd find it very comforting. Shame they had to put that "son of God" bit in.

You could try being a Jew.

oy vey!

I never poste in stereotypes.

Secular humanism isn't well organised enough.

There was only one true Christian, and he died on a cross.

I agree you have to be able to be defined by what you DO believe, not what you DON'T believe.

What's funny is I think secular humanism really is kinda the default framework for public discourse nowadays anyhow.

also rape

I'd like everyone to come together in a big building and celebrate the human "spirit" (or whatever you want to call it) but without throwing any silly mythology in. Possibly with rape.

That's why I'm considering becoming a deist. SRSLY.

I don't think I believe in a designer. Unless it's me and I'm creating the world with my thoughts all the time. I like that idea. I am the dreamer and the dream. THE WINDFISH AWAKENS!

(Deists use the word "God" too much, but they sound alright. Don't know.)

I was reading up on some of their beliefs and I kind of think nature and reason is their God. They're sort of agnostic and I like that about them.. they don't follow any religious dogma. One of the things I read that I really liked was about faith. In a revealed religion like Christianity we place our faith in the person God made the revelation to, not in God. The Deists skip the middlemen.

Well, everyone will be welcome in my church, those who believe in God and those who believe in ICE CREAM MAN. We could have debates and stuff. It would be fun.

I've pretty much been a deist for the last 5 years or so. I have a feeling (superstition?) that God is real, but I don't believe any of these organized religion assholes. I think God just wants us to be nice and try to live our lives to make the world a better place (even incrementally) IT'S NOT THAT FREAKING COMPLICATED also I don't think there is hell and as for heaven who knows.

Premising my own conclusions that we have souls/spirit/life energy/, hard to buy into the notion of "hell" as a place for eternal punishment. Too limited; precludes the possibilty of change/growth/and or evolution/, which seems to be the basic law of life as revealed by quantum physics: thus an illogical construct.

Also I just can't bring myself to conclude that beauty is random and meaningless, and since I find beauty everywhere, - from a newborn to a flower to an exquisite poem, or a brilliant piece of music -, that argues that there is meaning, and if there's meaning [to our existance] then it's not something that suddenly ends in one destination or another. We create our realities, our journeys, sure, but I think they continually go on as our essense [whatever ya choose to call it] learns and expands. But that's IMHO.

These theories are cute and all, but wrong. Why is it so hard for folk to simply trust in Jesus without all the BS and whining about organized Religion? Read the Bible and anyone who tells you crap that isn't in there, don't believe them. It's not rocket science.

Who the fuck are you to tell anyone their theories are wrong?

I believe in intelligent design. Which is why I watch Project Runway.

Because God said so, Cassie. It's in His book. There most definitely is a Hell and I for one don't want anyone to go there. How else are they going to know if someone doesn't tell them?

Oh, it's in a book. Convincing argument.
