I wish I could be a Christian

John The Baptist had the spirit of Elijah.
The John the Baptist / spirit of Elijah concept is actually at the core of an album I am working on.

I realllly like that motif... John the Baptist is by far the most interesting Biblical character in my book. I know Job is kinda hella cool too, with the bitching at God and shit, but man, I'll take me a headless prophet who died because a king wanted to bone his stepdaughter ANY day of the week.

I mean: to live such an intense and meaningful life, sacrifice your body and your mind for the sake of your God... And then to die for such a gratuitous, flip, and carnal reason, is to me a very heavy thought.

John the Baptist is by far the most interesting Biblical character in my book.

More interesting than Jesus? Moses? Daniel(survived being thrown in a lion's den)?

Yes, I think so. It's the cavalier nature of his death that really intrigues me. He lived on fucking locust, for fuck's sake! How shitty is that? He wore clothes made out of camel's hair. HAVE YOU EVER TOUCHED A CAMEL DUDE THAT REALLY SUCKS!!

But at the end of the day, a wicked, fucked up king wanted to bang his stepdaughter so this holy man has to die. This prophet, who saw the messiah coming when no one else did. This holy man who could baptize God's own son... Dead as a doornail, head cut off and put on a platter, because a sicko king wanted to screw his own daughter.

To me that is worth more contemplation than sitting in a lion's den or leading people to the promised land.

However I definitely agree it's a matter of taste.

spirituality, by the very definition of being human and all of the limitations that human perceptions entail, is individualistic. there is no way anyone could every truly show another person what they feel when they feel the way they feel when they worship.

any and all discussion as to who is right and who is wrong are moot, futile, and an exercise in frustration for all concerned.

i myself am the first priest of the church i created for myself, and there is no easy way to show you how i worship without us getting together, dropping acid and/or shrooms, and then giggling madly while we wander the back woods.

now how you fit the fact that spirituality is individualistic into an organized religion is up to you. do you parrot all of the things your preacher/priest/shaman says to you during worship, repeating them often enough to make them true in your head, or do you take the data presented by the organization and procure your own ideas and philosophies?

ultimately, the purpose of religion and spirituality is to attempt to explain the "otherness" that we all feel. the things that cannot be explained, the things that remind us we are spirit first, flesh second. we all have different connections to that other layer of reality, we should find ways to make ourselves holy before trying to do so for others.

Your acids and shrooms will be welcome in my church. But in a seperate room from all the old women so you don't offend them.

excellent. i look forward to freaking out about spiders during the reading of the gospel.

My ears were burning...was someone talking about taking a bath with Elijah?

Well, everyone will be welcome in my church, those who believe in God and those who believe in ICE CREAM MAN. We could have debates and stuff. It would be fun.

I wish I could be Atheist so I didn't believe in a God and I could live my life the way I want to live it, but it is deeply ingrained in me, not because I was raised that way but because I chose to at one point in my life.

God Loves Everyone
by Ron Sexsmith (album: Cobblestone Runway, 2002)

God loves everyone
Like a mother loves her son
No strings at all
Unconditional
Never one to judge
Would never hold a grudge
'Bout what's been done
God loves everyone

There are no gates in heaven
Everyone gets in
Queer or straight
Souls of every faith
Hell is in our minds
Hell is in this life
But when it's gone
God takes everyone

Its love is like a womb
It’s like the air from room to room
It surrounds us all
The living and the dead
May we never lose the thread
That bound us all

The killer in his cell
The atheist as well
The pure of heart
And the wild at heart
Are all worthy of its grace
It's written in the face
Of everyone
God loves everyone

There's no need to be saved
No need to be afraid
Cause when it’s done
God takes everyone

God loves everyone

I am a follower of the Jedi religion. There aren't many of us left. THANKS, VADER!

Prick.

I calls it as I sees it. Condescending? Arrogant? Meh. I guess so. But no matter how it's put it's always going to be that way. It's a like a bucket of cold water, no-one likes the moment it's dumped over your head, even if it's a hot day.

Actually, it's most welcome on a hot day, and usually when people suddenly find themselves asking for it. ;)

whatever brings you comfort.

but telling other folks who have a different belief system than yours that they're "wrong" IS condescending and arrogant. Period.

Yub.. tbh you're the last person I'd take spiritual advice from. Your idiotic and dickish comments only reinforce what I already know. You're analogy to a bucket of cold water is retarded. Your words don't inspire anyone to seek out the bible, they're not shocking in any way... matter of fact, they're pretty typical of someone who doesn't have much understanding of anything but their own narrow world view. Keep on uninspiring people!

Oh dear. My words where neither meant to be shocking nor meant to inspire. I was referring the truth and how nobody likes it, in the same way no-one likes a bucket over their head.

Now, I'm going to do the smart thing and retreat from this thread. I've said my piece, nothing will profit from me repeating it. But I will say this before I leave, it seems you have a problem with God. I suggest you thrash out your differences with Him. Yes, yes, I know, that probably annoyed you and you'll do no such thing. Do it or don't. I know what He'd want.

NON-DENOMINATIONAL GROUP HUG!!11

I knew I left this thread too early.
