CaptainWacky

I want to smell dark matter
Remember when you were in primary school and you made pancakes in school and ate them and it was fun and different and maybe the world wasn't so horrible after all?

No, me neither.

All i remember is Blue Peter going on about it every year and one of the presenters attempting to flip the pancakes.

We don't have pancake day in Americaland :(

LOSERS! PANCAKE DAY IS A MILLION TIMES BETTER THAN THANKSGIVING!

You don't have Shrove Tuesday AKA Pancake Day?!?!!?

Isn't it something to do with Jesus? You'd think Americans would be all over that shit.

What do pancakes have to do with JESUS?

About as much as eggs do.

WELL then!

um, Mardi Gras/ Fat Tuesday/ Shrove Tuesday/Pancake Day is the feast before the fasting of Lent....that's all I got..

....it's Wiki time:

"The reason that pancakes are associated with the day preceding Lent is that the 40 days of Lent form a period of liturgical fasting, during which only the plainest foodstuffs may be eaten. Therefore, rich ingredients such as eggs, milk, and sugar are disposed of immediately prior to the commencement of the fast. Pancakes and doughnuts were therefore an efficient way of using up these perishable goods, besides providing a minor celebratory feast prior to the fast itself ."

The word shrove is a past tense of the English verb "shrive," which means to obtain absolution for one's sins by confessing and doing penance. Shrove Tuesday gets its name from the shriving (confession) that Anglo-Saxon Christians were expected to receive immediately before Lent."

NOW YOU KNOW

OH.. it's a Catholic thing. I was raised Baptist so we never celebrated Mardi Gras, or gave anything up for Lent. IRONICALLY we did celebrate Easter with eggs.

Do peopple actually still do the Lent thing?

Yes, a lot of people give something up for Lent.

in catholic school we had a pancake breakfast once a year, i think that God likes pancakes. At least thats what i took away from it. I am guessing he is a syrup no fruit kinda guy/woman.

We used to taunt the Catholic school next door with choclate covered pancakes during Lent.

(well, not really)

I realy like pancakes. with maple syrup.

maybe a sausage or two alongside.

even though sausages are pretty much not good for you.

It is my solemn mission to make sure that eggs permeate EVERY. HOLIDAY. ON THE CALENDAR.

:eggs:

BTW, we didn't make pancakes during class, but we would help out in the kitchen and with serving refreshments during the monthly parish bingo games.

In class, we worked with the ingredients to pancakes, but it was usually to make paste for papier maché projects. WHICH DID NOT TASTE AS GOOD.

^LOL! Now that brings back memories - BINGO in the parish hall! IIRC I may have played BINGO before I was reading!! ZZOMG.
