Justice League

That's always a promising sign. I saw something about rotten tomatoes "delaying" it's reviews.

LET THE COUNTDOWN TO LETDOWN BEGIN!

I'm already let down, my man.

Ugh. I know I'm an old fart but I cringe every time I see the trailer and hear Aquaman utter "My Man!"

So premiere is Friday. At the very latest, there will be midnight showings, but they may even have advance showings as early as noon Thursday. We're under a day and a half from opening and reviews are still under embargo. Will it be a bigger mess than "Suicide Squad"? "Dong of Justice"? And what comes after? I was always a DC fan in my youth, but there are some definite challenges to a Justice League film franchise. Because at some point you've *got* to bring Superman back. And then you have to figure out stories where somehow Superman can't defeat the threat on his own but the threat isn't able to just obliterate a human like Batman: "Brainiac hid the Oblivion Device in the Ocean, Aquaman, go ask some fish if they saw anything. Flash, you run get me some tacos from this place in Ensanada that has really great tacos. Batman, stay out of the way, Wonder Woman, stand there and look pretty; maybe lasso some truth out of a fish for Aquaman. Meanwhile, I'll go squash Brainiac." [Cyborg] "What should I do?" "Who are you and how did you get here?"

Yep. I've read a few entertaining ones. But, amazingly, they're still embargoed on RottenTomatoes. This is a major tentpole movie that has previews starting in the morning.

He needed the moustache for another movie...and couldn't wear a fake, apparently?

Ohhhh...The reviews are on RottenTomatoes finally. I don't know which ones I enjoy better, the bad ones (this movie is turgid garbage) or the good ones (not as horrible as the average DC movie). Also, this place has the worst selection of smilies anywhere. No laughing smilie!? :(

The more I think about the "Wonder Woman" movie, the more I realize it's the smartest retard in the special ed class. It only looks good compared to the rest of the DCU. It could almost be a Marvel movie. Although they'd have to give back the "Captain America: The First Avenger" ending.

My favorite line was "There's only one thing that can stop them now! Wonder Woman, get your tits out!"

So it's possible this thing cost $300 million--before marketing costs, say another $100 million for that--and could close its domestic run at a gross of under $200 million.

I drug my ass out after thanksgiving dinner to watch it. Its definitely the best flick of the franchise, but that still doesn't mean it's great. They tried to have more fun with this one, (almost too much?) And Superman started out dark, and broody but quickly cheered up. He was actually a badass. He was actually Superman, so that was cool. The negative side of that is, he could've stopped the Villain by himself. All the others put together couldn't hold his jock.
He kicked their collective asses, easily.
None of the characters sucked per se, if only they had been in a better movie. But this movie wasn't terrible, just lacking.

They could've went in an entirely different, and better direction with the story, but alas, they didnt. It was entertaining. A good popcorn flick that passed time, and wasn't as disappointing as I had dreaded it would be.

The special effects were complete shit at times, and if you can ignore glaring potholes then you can enjoy it. The saddest thing though, was this movie really seemed only like a slightly better version of the Arrowverse, and the movie itself...
Was pretty much the first Avengers, but not nearly as good. Seriously, it's pretty much the first Avengers movie.

I'm not huge on government regulation, but I kind of feel like any further DC movies should have trailers that contain a voiceover that says: "From the people who brought you: 'Batman Forever', 'Batman & Robin', 'Catwoman', 'Green Lantern', 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice', and 'Suicide Squad," just to remind everyone what a terrible, terrible job these people are doing.

Well yeah. I also quite liked the Burton Batman ones and the 1978 Superman (although that was more akin to X-men or Spiderman, where it was licensed to another studio). But the way they had a pretty solid franchise with the 1990s Batman and wrecked it by meddling makes me think someone needs to get the suits at DC and Warner as far away from their product as possible.

And for the record, I thought the Nolan films were fine and did a lot of things right, but I don't love them as much as a lot of people do and suspect that in 20 years they'll have aged as badly as Burton's ones--which also did a lot of things right but had some flaws.

Anyway, at this point the DCU is probably teetering on the brink. There's probably another Wonder Woman movie one way or another, but everything else probably hangs on the performance of whatever they've got that's in production that's far enough along to not kill.

And that's "Aquaman."

If anyone can tell me a compelling plot for an Aquaman movie that isn't literally a punchline, I'm all ears.
