Mad Men thread

But OOOOH! Are there gonna be some explosions and meltdowns next season. Maybe the show did too much teasing and not enough resolution with this finale, but at least they assured us that there will still be somewhere interesting for these characters to go next year. ;)

SURPRISE! Nobody saw that proposal coming, maybe that's why Mathew Weiner crammed 90% of the story arc into one episode. Risky! But the way that Don's been torn down this season, it sort of made sense that his inner Dick is emerging, and pining for a happier, less mysterious life. Of course, he probably won't find that happiness and will end up hurting people in the end, but it's interesting to see him even consider the possibility.

Betty has hit bottom as a person. Maybe she will crack up and Don will get the kids permanently next year. Either way, they better not waste Sally on a bunch of suicide watches or analyst sessions next year. Girl's got some game, she ought to be out on the field!

I also wish that Roger would have gotten more of a comeuppance by the finale, but he's still getting away with his shit for now. Maybe the fact that Joan kept the baby and is going to make her husband think it's his was supposed to be some sort of karma. But Roger's been such a turdy weasel this year...

I'm officially hooked on this show. Time to watch the earlier seasons...I keep forgetting I have the season 1 DVD around here someplace...

I loved what Glenn said to Betty "Just because you're sad doesn't mean everyone else has to be." And I wanted Carla (the housekeeper) to tell her off, LoL.

When Peggy walked into Joan's office and Joan goes "Whatever could be on your mind," I cracked up. I'm glad those two are bonding now, since they are pretty much the only females with any power left. I'm not surprised Joan kept the baby, though.

Best lines of the night go to Faye:

"I hope she knows you only like the beginnings of things."

"Are you going to take out an ad saying you never liked me?"

I was thinking though, do you think the lesbian brought in her "gal pal" to Peggy so Peggy would know that the other company was looking for work? Was it so blatant, but I'm just now realizing that?

That didn't occur to me at first, so maybe you're on to something!

Someone on another site speculated that Sonny & Cher's "I Got You Babe" at the end signified a wink to Bill Murray and Groundhog Day, as if to say that Don is getting back on the carousel and history is going to repeat itself...

Why would Don tell Peggy what's her name reminds her of him?? I think Don would be with Peggy if she was more attractive in his eyes. Don called her Barbara Stanwyck once.

I think Don sees too much of himself in Peggy, I don't see them ever being a couple. If they do end up together, to me that would be a sign that the show jumped the shark.

They may end up running the firm together (or another firm), but I think they work best as allies who keep each other's secrets.

I am totally crushing on Don's new secretary.

Oh in that dress... with those teeth... good lord. Good call on Don for marrying her!

And holy shit, a mostly happy episode of Mad Men! It's always great to see Don and the kids get on so well, and Peggy and Ken being good and Joan's larger breasts.

But mostly I'm happy that Don's soon-to-be-wife will be in more episodes because she's lovely.

I have nothing to add to this thread apart from Saint with Green hair.

I watched the first episode tonight. It was good. I'll watch more at my leisure.

(Do they have a "hey, he's a closeted gay guy!" moment everytime the closeted gay guy is on screen? Because that could get old and was the only part of the episode that felt a bit forced. And maybe the "we don't have a magic machine that copies documents!" line.)
