Man Of Steel

Mmm, lots of TV actors. One scene had Helo and Gaeta, then there was the guy from Dollhouse and the one from L&O.

Um. Henry Cavil did a good job, but the story was really messy and humanity was depicted as such a bunch of retards I really struggled to understand why Superman thought they were worth protecting. Not that he did a great job of defending them either, as the number of deaths caused by his collateral damage was probably higher than Zod's intentional attacks on people.

Yeah, I was half expecting him to start using his "rebuild stuff" vision powers from Superman 4.

I agree with everything Tomtrek wrote but would like to add that aside from the shaking cam and the snap zooms, it was also annoying that quite frequently he did the Paul Greengrass thing of only showing close ups of people when they were fighting. So you see an arm here and a leg there, but you have no general impression of whose arm that was, or what fightibg moves are used, or who's besting who. Frankly, I find invincible superhero fights pretty dull at the best of times, but they are greatly improved by bring able to see what's happening.

There is a character called Jenny, but noone ever mentions her last name, so the Olson connection is unconfirmed.

I want to know why Zod couldn't just bugger off and invade some other planet. I mean, if they could terraform, why fuck up Earth?

Henry Cavill is a very good looking person. That's nice.
Maybe we can have a movie where Henry Cavill, Christopher Hemsworth, the Rock and other pec-alicious fellows walk around being fabulous to look at.

Saw Man of Steel in Imax 3D. It was good. Is it enough to reboot Superman? Probably. Put him in with the Avenger crowd. He and the Hulk would be fun together.

I liked how he told the army guy that he, Superman, could be trusted because he was raised in Kansas.

Because the only way they could reproduce was with that skull thing that they believed had been sent with Kal-El.

I really enjoyed it.

Did it have some flaws? Absolutely. But I still had tons of fun watching it.

One thing did occur.

Presumably none of the kryptonians had ever picked up a train before, so the guy must have been a really good shot to pick one up for the first time ever, throw it about five miles, and still hit Superman square on.

A truly excellent reimagining of the mythos. What did people want exactly? I am hardcore as they get and I loved every minute of it. Wasn't perfect by any stretch, certain things were rushed, others should have been expanded on but this was an awesome Superman story. An update on a character that has permeated through pop culture for 80 years. Cavill was good. Shannon was great with what he had (possibly could have done better with Zod, but don't dare rag on Shannon, guy is a behemoth of an actor and awesome casting,) and the action was totally outrageous. You know, if you send Kryptonians at eachother..yeah..that's what happens.

Faora.. AWESOME! COME ON!

And on top of it all...they didn't gloss over Kal being a fucking alien. Loved how the story was built around the concept of what would actually happen if Superman was real. It was fast paced and moved swiftly, but this is a 2 hour film. I thought what needed to be in there was represented well. Fucking decent Sci-Fi film as well. Taking us back before Kansas and fleshing that part out was a delight. The delving in to his Kryptonian origins and showing how things got to the point that this child was ejected in to space was done really well. I also enjoyed picking up the ENDLESS nods to different Superman stories while still telling a compelling original take on the mythos but I can't see how this wouldn't cater to those who don't know the depth of the story either.

Film was brilliant. Not perfect, no. Plenty of nit-picks to be had...but eh...seriously? So the fuck what? Seen it three times. Third time was my favourite viewing. I love this character. Means a lot to me. I was plenty happy with this film. It's not actually as Synder "flashy" as some critics have said. There is actually some real exploration of the idea here.

I know we're going to get Lex next. I don't mind, but don't let me die before I get to see a Darksied vs Superman film please. I do know I can't wait for the next film. Oh, and Amy Adams?...Lois done right first time since Margot Kidder. And I was skeptical.

Really long day, I'm abbreviating here, it's 7 in the freaking morning. I wasn't disappointed though, and I needed to say that.

The surprise for me was just how awesome Russell Crowe was in the role. Of course, he's a kickass actor, but I honestly didn't know how he would play it.

But then when he started fighting I leaned over to my friend and whispered "His name is Maximus Desmus Meridius". Or however you spell it. He owned that role.

And I kinda like Faora more than Zod. But that's just because I dig me some warrior women. And she was fanfuckingtastic.

Faora just got to kick ass and be happy about doing it.

Zod pretty much had the weight of the world on his shoulders.

From his perspective, he knew the kryptonian leaders were ruining the planet, he and Jor El had obviously discussed ways to take over, then when he actually tried, not only did Jor El turn against him, but he stole the magic skull thing that lets them reproduce.

Then they arrive on earth, where the people would literally be like ants to them, and the gravity machine their version of a big can of Raid.

He looses the chance to terraform earth, looses the codex and the babies, permanently, then looses all his people again, he has literally lost everything, and by the end the only victory he can achieve is his death by cop suicide, forcing Kal to end him.

So yeah, not a light and frothy role.

I watched this. I thought it was kind of dull. There was no joy. The joy of being Superman. No humour. I mean literally no humour except the girl saying "I think he's kind of hot giggle giggle!" at the end which was pretty sexist. I agree with a lot of Tomtrek's points but also David Goyer deserves to be mentioned as much as Zack Snyder because the script was bad. I mean can you anyone like just quote a memorable line from it right now? Probably not!

I actually liked the flying for the first time scene just because Clark smiled a bit and seemed to be having a good time. For a minute. Everyone seems to have loved Henry Cavil but I thought he was a bit boring? Like when he started kissing Lois I didn't buy it at all because he seemed like an emotionless robot up until then. People complained about Thor and Jane having "no chemistry" in the Thor movies (and their romance was a bit rushed) but they were much more believable than this.

The Smallville fight had some good moments (liked Superman actually saving a human!) but he didn't seem to care that he destroyed pretty much the whole town.

The Jesus stuff was so cringey lol.

What was with them suddenly going "OH NO JENNY'S TRAPPED UNDER SOME RUBBLE" when we hadn't even seen her before in the movie at that point?

The flashbacks seemed quite randomly placed. I did like the freakout at the school. But the tornado scene was just unintentionally hilarious. "Get your mother to the overpass son!" like she couldn't just get there herself "I have to save the dog!" lol.

I DON'T THINK I'M SMARTER THAN PEOPLE WHO ENJOYED IT THOUGH. I would have liked it to be good but I didn't find it good.

I also watched it again last night, still liked it, and as an added bonus I even dreamed I was superman last night.

My wife on the other hand did not like it, although her main problem seemed to be "its not Christopher Reeve"

Hopefully Superman will break out the smiles a bit more in the follow up, and leave all the grim faces to Batman.
