Merlin series 3

So, tonight's was actually pretty decent. I mean I thought there might be some actual development with Arhtur maybe telling everyone he loves Gwen (but why!?) or at least Uther still being angry with Arthur for stopping the wedding, but this IS Merlin so it takes a lot for anything to change. Liked Morgana actually being smart and noticing that Gwen and Arthur like each other and doing evil looks as she plans to take advantage of it. Liked how the princess didn't die/turn out to be evil/end the episode insane and she was much nicer than Gwen and Arthur should have just married her.

Next week's looks good with the return of the evil king and Morgause, but I'm not too happy about Morgana actually trying to kill Arthur given that he's never done anything to her...but she's evil now and you can't expect too much depth from Merlin.

Yeeeeah it could've been worse. It just seems a shame that Merlin feels that for every interesting slightly more serious episode about cool things and evil Morgana, it needs a "LOOK AT THIS PERSON FARTING" episode to balance it.

I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than I expected to. They didn't really seem to acknowledge that we'd seen those bad guys before, but we had, hadn't we?

Merlin offs bad guys without remorse, but only if they're not human. Bit of a funny message to be sending kids. The evil old white guy must be protected at all costs, but the faerie that just wants to make a princess marry Arthur can be blown to smithereens. Priorities.

Morgana looking out a window and smiling evilly. IT'S BACK!

Lots of hilarious Richard Wilson stuff. He's really good.

Apparently the staff Merlin pulled out from under his bed came from the previous episode with the fairies (can't remember the name they had in the show.)

someone comes to camelot. they not what they seem ( eg hidden troll, fairy, minkey tamer) , they aim to kill ( arthur or oother) , merlin finds out, runs about a bit, blah blah..

repeat next week

I think we covered that a few times, yeah. It's like watching Smallville or Neighbours or some other "so bad it's good" type show. Most of the time you're pointing and laughing at the incongruities, but from time to time it surprises you by actually being really good. And the key point is, it's always entertaining.

Yes I'm sure we've said the exact same thing to Wills in every other Merlin thread, ending with "why do you watch it?"

And I liked the minkey tamer episode!

I endure it for my child.

its corruption of classical historical british mythology is my under current meh with it, so much material, such limited writing...

Even though the Arthurian legend is mostly French.

And it was been televisually buttraped quite a lot before this show came along.

Merlin is the greatest work of art produced in the 21st century.

Dual thinks of it even more highly than the "exquisite" (his word, not mine) SGU.

GOOD episode this week. The only issues I have with it are how easy it was for Merlin and Arthur to escape and Morgana having no issue at all with killing Gwen and Arthur. Okay, killing Gwen is perfectly fine, but she's never had a problem with Arthur before.

BUT it was an entertainging episode, Morgause and the EVIL KING were fun together, Merlin and Arthur continue to have more chemistry then Arthur and Gwen and Morgana was quite possibly at her all time hottest. We had a great dressing showing her pale breasts at one point and then she was in that armour and that was some sexy armour. Plus all those evil smiles. I love Katie McGana.

Yeah, who knew chainmail could look so hot? I guess we should've expected that considering the rest of Morgana's wardrobe.

GOOD EPISODE

(was Gaius in it?)

Gaius was in the "be careful, Merlin!" scene before they left for the castle.

Merlin has been picked up for a fourth series.

But only ten episodes? Must be because of FUCKING Cameron and Clegg screwing over the BBC when what we really need in this tough times is world class entertainment.

But they could just leave off the yearly "someone who farts comes to Camelot" to get down to 12 episodes at least.

Morgana is so fucking pale yesssssssssssssssssssss

I liked the part where the One Ring was sucking Arthur's energy and he fell into the Dead Marshes, then was attacked by Nazgul and climbed up Isengard where Merlin was given the Phial of Galadriel.

But anyway, good episode. Always nice to see Warwich Davis and they actually progressed things slightly with boring Gwen finding out sexy Morgana's secret.

Next week's is just the "stranger shows up in Camelot AND THEY'RE A MAGICAL CREATURE" thing again though.

The whole ep was pretty darn good. Some movement on the story, characters (well, one character) finding out a secret, Gwaine being cool and Warwick Davies along for the ride. It's a pity we didn't see more of him.

The explanation for the dragons was reasonable.

I didn't really get how Arthur came to the decision to go on that particular quest. Did he spend his time meditating thinking "hmm, what would be a really impressive thing for me to do?". I guess so.

It's annoying that nobody bothered to tell Arthur that Morgana had tried to kill him. And more annoying that he didn't seem to question why he was so inexplicably ill.

Next week's looks like yet another spin on the old "someone comes to the castle" thing. A Gaius episode, though, so I suppose we should be grateful for that at least.
