Juri Vips still on Red Bull driver programme despite using racial slur

Red Bull has clarified that Juri Vips has lost his test and reserve driver roles with its Formula One team but remains part of the driver programme despite using a racial slur on a livestream last month. Vips' contract for those roles was terminated on June 28 after a week-long investigation into the slur, which he apologised for. New Zealander Liam Lawson has taken both positions. Despite the controversy, Vips was retained by his Formula Two team Hitech, who felt the loss of his Red Bull backing was enough of a punishment.

IndyCar champ Alex Palou debunks Ganassi return announcement, says he's leaving to join McLaren in 2023

Alex Palou's top priority remains winning a second straight IndyCar championship. But his future after this year is looking awfully murky. Shortly after Chip Ganassi Racing announced Tuesday it would exercise a team option to keep the star Spaniard next season, Palou and Arrow McLaren SP said they had agreed to a deal for 2023. Palou emerged as a star last season by becoming the first Spaniard to win an IndyCar title while giving Ganassi a 14th series crown. Palou hasn't disappointed this year either, posting four top-five finishes and seven top-10s in the first nine races. Although he hasn't won a race, Palou is fourth in the standings, 35 points behind Indianapolis 500 champ and teammate Marcus Ericsson heading into Sunday's race at Toronto.

The six-time series champion finally snapped a 22-race winless streak Sunday when he held off pole sitter Colton Herta and Felix Rosenqvist on a late restart to win in the series' return to Canada following a three-year hiatus. Dixon's 52nd career win came more than 21 years after his first triumph in Pennsylvania and puts him in some rarefied air. The next victory moves Dixon past Andretti and continues the climb toward Foyt, who holds a record that might never be broken with 67 career wins.
