Mercedes' Stoffel Vandoorne wins Formula E world title in Seoul

Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne won the Formula E title for the departing Mercedes team on Sunday as the electric motor racing championship wrapped up season eight with the 100th race of its history. The second of two E-prix in Seoul also ended an era for the FIA-sanctioned series, with season nine in 2023 introducing a new generation of quicker, lighter and more energy-efficient cars. Former McLaren F1 racer Vandoorne started fourth and ended up second in Sunday's race in and around the South Korean capital's Olympic stadium to take his first championship 33 points clear of Mitch Evans in a Jaguar. New Zealander Evans, who had won from third on Saturday to close the gap to 21 points, finished seventh after qualifying only 13th for a race he had to win while hoping Vandoorne finished outside the top seven.

Chandler Smith gets third Truck Series victory of season at Richmond
Smith, who led the final 175 laps, sealed the victory by doing what he did all night: pulling away from John Hunter Nemechek on a restart with 28 laps to go after the lone caution for an on-track incident.

Elliott had control of the race late, but a caution gave Larson a chance and he took advantage, moving Elliott to the left coming out of the first turn and pulling away for a weekend Xfinity-Cup sweep. All was not lost for Elliott, however. Needing only four points to clinch the regular-season championship, he was able to secure that with his fourth-place finish at The Glen, a week before the finale.

Team Penske extends Joey Logano's contract for No. 22 Ford
Logano joined Team Penske ahead of the 2013 season after he was dumped by Joe Gibbs Racing over lack of performance. But he's flourished at Penske and won 27 Cup races, including the 2015 Daytona 500, the 2016 NASCAR All-Star race.

Austin Dillion, Ryan Blaney earn last two NASCAR playoff spot
Dillon's victory in the No. 3 Chevrolet was as stunning as Blaney's comeback. Running 16th at the time of the crash, he turned onto the apron to avoid the 15-car melee between Turns 1 and 2 that was caused by a summer shower everyone saw coming.

NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs: Who's in? Who's out? And who's ready to win it all?
Welcome to the NASCAR playoffs!

Helpful hint: Don't call it the Chase. And don't dare call it the Playoff, singular. That's what they do over in college football, where only four teams are in the College Football Playoff field. Here in stock car country, there are 16 teams in the title fight, but like CFP and bowl season, those 16 teams share their postseason stage with a bunch of other teams that are competing for wins, but not for the championship.
