Sources: Redskins working to hire Jennifer King, NFL's first African American female full-time assistant coach
Redskins coach Ron Rivera hired King as a wide receivers coaching intern for the Carolina Panthers the past two summers. She also was an offensive assistant with Dartmouth College this past fall.

:wtf:
"Part of it, it's all about the fan base," Rivera told ESPN at the time. "It's also knowing the moms out there that understand the game. It's important because they really do control as to whether their kids are going to play. This is something that has to be developed.

"It helps us in a lot of ways. It also shows everybody deserves an opportunity."

"[King's] knowledge of the game was impressive,"

"It's a double standard when it comes to sports with females and men."

Philip Rivers to enter free agency, ending 16-year run with Chargers

The Chargers and Rivers jointly announced the veteran quarterback's decision Monday, with general manager Tom Telesco saying that the timing of the announcement will "allow everyone to put themselves in the best position for success in 2020." Rivers, 38, is the most prolific passer in Chargers history, but he signaled last month that his time with the franchise likely was over. The eight-time Pro Bowler passed for 4,615 yards and 23 touchdowns his fewest since 2007 with 20 interceptions this past season, and Los Angeles struggled to a disappointing 5-11 record and a last-place finish in the AFC West.

Rivers is sixth in NFL history in career passing yards (59,271) and touchdown passes (397). He led the Chargers to the playoffs six times in his 14 years as their starter, including an appearance in the 2007 AFC Championship Game. Rivers' 224 consecutive starts are the second most by an NFL quarterback, trailing just Brett Favre's total of 297. Rivers was drafted fourth overall by the New York Giants in 2004 and was traded to the Chargers in a draft-day deal for Eli Manning. Rivers went on to set 30 franchise records with the Chargers, and his 123 wins rank him ninth among quarterbacks in NFL history.

Myles Garrett helmet attack suspension was a blessing in disguise

it "feels pretty nice" to be officially back in the NFL after his indefinite suspension ... and says he got better during his time away from the game. As we previously reported the Cleveland Browns superstar was reinstated into the league on Wednesday after meeting with commish Roger Goodell and other NFL execs. Garrett was suspended for 6 games for swinging a helmet at Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph back in November and had to seek counseling before making a return. The 24-year-old spent a lot of time in the gym during his suspension so we had to ask if the time away could have actually been a GOOD thing. "Everything that happens to you is for a reason,".

Myles Garrett again alleges Mason Rudolph called him a racial slur, sparking brawl

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett again alleged that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph used a racial slur toward him just prior to the brawl at the end of their November game. "He called me the N-word," Garrett told Outside the Lines' Mina Kimes during an interview that debuted Thursday night on Sports Center. "He called me a 'stupid N-word.'" The star defensive player first asserted during his appeals hearing for the suspension that Rudolph incited him with a racial slur, ESPN previously reported. Garrett later said he never intended for the accusation to become public but added: "I know what I heard." In Thursday's interview, Garrett recounted a different version of events and blamed Rudolph for starting the fight that led to the discipline of 33 players and fines amounting to $732,422.

Josh Norman ready for 'something new and fresh' after Redskins release
Norman intercepted seven passes and forced eight fumbles in his four seasons, but he didn't provide the game-changing plays that he did in his final season with the Panthers. The move will save the Redskins $12.5 million in cap space.

Ravens release Tony Jefferson; James Hurst suspended for PED use
After going undrafted in 2013, Jefferson spent his first four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. In seven seasons, Jefferson has recorded 450 tackles, 4 interceptions and 22 passes defensed. The Ravens saved $7 million in cap space with the move.

NFL owners vote to accept negotiated terms on proposed new CBA

NFL owners on Thursday accepted the negotiated terms of a new proposed collective bargaining agreement, sending the vote to players ahead of a potential agreement between the sides. All 32 owners met Thursday in New York City for an update on the current proposal.Three-fourths of the owners had to approve the CBA for it to be ratified. While owners were not unanimous in their approval, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter, the proposal still garnered enough support to pass.
"Following more than ten months of intensive and thorough negotiations the NFL Players and clubs have jointly developed a comprehensive set of new and revised terms that will transform the future of the game, provide for players -- past, present, and future -- both on and off the field, and ensure that the NFL's second century is even better and more exciting for the fans," the league said in a statement.

NFLPA team player reps and the NFLPA's executive council, which had been planning a Friday meeting in Washington, D.C., on the topic, are now planning to hold a conference call Friday instead of meeting face-to-face. That call could result in a vote on whether to approve the owners' offer or reject it. Sources previously told ESPN that the proposed CBA would allow the league to expand the regular season from 16 games to 17 at some point in the next four years (although no sooner than 2021) in exchange for financial and other concessions the players have sought in negotiations. One concession is that the preseason will be shortened, sources said.

Sources: NFL player leadership remains divided over 17-game season
