NFL owners approve playoff, diversity measures

NFL owners began planning for the possibility that their 2020 regular season will be cut short by COVID-19 cancellations, one of several developments from a two-hour video meeting Tuesday afternoon. Speaking later on a conference call, commissioner Roger Goodell reiterated that the league is "committed" to completing its full regular season in its scheduled 17-week interval. But after the league's most recent COVID-19 testing report indicated a sharp rise in confirmed cases, Goodell acknowledged the importance of determining an alternative should the season end with not all teams having played 16 games. If that happens, the league will expand its postseason from 14 to 16 teams, split equally between the AFC and NFC. It was not immediately clear how many games would need to be canceled for the 16-team bracket to be enacted.

NFL News: Week-10

WR Allen Lazard has been activated off injured reserve. He hasn't played since Week 3 — when he caught passes for 146 yards and a touchdown before undergoing core muscle surgery.

The Seahawks' latest injury concern heading into Thursday night's game vs. Arizona is with Tyler Lockett. Pete Carroll said the receiver has a "bit of a knee sprain" and that he's dealing with some discomfort and swelling. Carroll described it as not being a serious injury, but he suggested some uncertainty about Lockett's availability for this week, saying: "We'll look to see how he does day-to-day and take it to Thursday." Lockett was a non-participant on Monday's estimated practice report

Maybe it's just a coincidence, but coach Mike McCarthy said cornerback Chidobe Awuzie, who has not played since Week 2 because of a hamstring strain, looked great at Monday's practice. Awuzie is needed now with Trevon Diggs out multiple weeks with a broken foot. "The next man has to step in there and it creates opportunities for others," McCarthy said. "But definitely Trevon has been a big part of how we want to play on defense and he's definitely done a heck of a job as a rookie."

The Panthers officially signed quarterback Tommy Stevens to the practice squad. The former Mississippi State quarterback was drafted in the seventh round by New Orleans and use primarily as a tight end. After being released the Panthers immediately brought him in for a workout. They had hoped to sign him as as an undrafted player after the draft, so they'd already done their homework

Sources: Baltimore Ravens to take a look at WR Dez Bryant
Bryant's 531 career receptions would be the most by any wide receiver before missing two full seasons and then returning to the NFL. The Ravens attempted to sign Bryant in April 2018.

Source: Baltimore Ravens signing Dez Bryant to practice squad
Bryant is attempting to become the second Pro Bowl wide receiver to miss two full seasons and then return to the NFL since the 1970 merger. Josh Gordon was the first.

Baltimore Ravens WR Dez Bryant moved to active roster
The Ravens' wide receivers rank last in the NFL in catches (117) and receiving yards (1,367) through eight weeks of the regular season. In eight seasons, Bryant was the Cowboys' top playmaker, totaling 7,459 yards and a franchise-record 73 touchdown catches.

Source: Dez elevated off Ravens' practice squad
Bryant, 31, played only two snaps two weeks ago at Indianapolis, his first game since December 2017. In his Ravens debut, he ran one route and didn't have a pass thrown in his direction.

Baltimore Ravens' game against Pittsburgh Steelers moved as team disciplines staffer
This decision was made out of an abundance of caution to ensure the health and safety of players, coaches and game day personnel and in consultation with medical experts," the NFL said in a statement. The outbreak has been widespread in Baltimore, where members of the Ravens' coaching staff and support staff have also tested positive. This is the second time the Steelers' schedule has been affected by COVID-19.

Baltimore Ravens-Pittsburgh Steelers game moved to Tuesday; Ravens-Dallas Cowboys game moved to Dec. 7
The Ravens will now play at the undefeated Steelers on Tuesday night at 8 ET, the NFL announced. Baltimore was scheduled to play host to the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night, but that game also has been moved, to Monday, Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. ET.

Baltimore Ravens-Pittsburgh Steelers game postponed again, to Wednesday at 3:40 p.m. ET
It becomes the first game of the NFL season to get postponed three times because NBC, which is broadcasting the game, wanted to honor its commitment to broadcast the 88th Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Wednesday night, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
