Official Trek 11 countdown/news thread

Which mod is James Garner, and why is he stealing a cool movie/TV star's name?

JIM ROCKFORD IS DA SHIZ BITCHAZ! BETTA RECKANYYYYYZZZZZZZZZ!!111

Whichever mod is sleeping with Bonz this week.

He's a "reference librarian".

Lord Garth. has to be.

Final frontier for Cho, Pegg

John Cho and Simon Pegg have boarded the Starship Enterprise.

Cho has been cast as Sulu, the Enterprise's helmsman, while Pegg has signed on to play Scotty, the ship's Scottish chief engineer, in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" feature for Paramount.

The "Trek" casting deals appear to be closing at warp speed this week, with Eric Bana signing on Wednesday to play the movie's villain, Nero.

Already on board are Zoe Saldana as Uhura and Anton Yelchin as a young Chekov, the Russian-born navigator, as well as Zachary Quinto as a young Spock. Leonard Nimoy, who originated the role of Spock, is on board as well. Chris Pine is in talks to play the young Kirk.

The movie is expected to shoot from November-March.

Plot details are begin kept under wraps, but it is understood that the movie chronicles the early days of the Enterprise crew. The lead roles remaining to be cast are Christopher Pike, the first captain of the Enterprise, and Kirk's parents.

Montgomery "Scotty" Scott was the ship's third-in-command and was known for his problem-solving abilities in plot-critical situations. The role was originated by the late James Doohan.

Lt. Hikaru Sulu, known for his love of fencing, always was seen on deck piloting the ship next to Chekov. George Takei played the character in the 1960s TV series and the 1980s movies.

Cho starred as Harold in the cult hit "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle." He is reprising the role for the sequel. Cho is repped by Gersh, Principato/Young and attorney Alex Kohner.

Pegg, repped by CAA, starred in "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz." He next toplines David Schwimmer's comedy "Run, Fat Boy, Run."
SULU AND SCOTTY FIGHT ZOMBIES AT WHITE CASTLE DUUUUUUUUDE!

I approve of these two bits of casting.

So not only is Scotty not scottish but he's played by SIMON PEGG? It's a serious WTF moment. He might be good, of course. I can only imagine him doing a comedy scottish accent though, but I suppose that's in keeping with Doohan...

They could just have Pegg use his normal accent and say Scotty is just a nickname since his last name is Scott.

I suppose we should be greatful the other crew member weren't called africanny, russiany and jappy.

If Scotty isn't scottish I'll be boycotting the movie.

(Did Uhura have an African accent?)

James Doohan was Canadian (yeah of Scottish descent too but Doohan sounds Irish to me so I'm skeptical).

BTW, here's the guy rumoured to be in talks to play Young Kirk:

Chris Pine, who had parts in Smokin Aces, Just My Luck and not much else.

He looks a bit too much like Quinto, we dont want Kirk and Spock looking too much alike.

He's cute, but NOT AS CUTE AS WILLIAM SHATNER IMO.

CGI Kirk is the way to go.

Dohaan faked a scottish accent, at least. Maybe Pegg will have no dialogue for the whole movie and everytime he's about to speak the ship will be shot by Romulans or something. Or maybe he'll do a flawless scottish accent AND THESE WORRYINGS WILL BE FOR NAUGHT.

The movie has a massive $150 million budget.

COULD BE THE BIGGEST FLOP EVER!!!?!?!!

Smart move, when the last two 70million dollar movies dont make there budget back, the smart move is to double the budget, oh yeah thatll work!

They'll release it in twice the number of theaters as well, which will mean it will lose the same percentage of its budget. So in a way the news will be GOOD, because in some perverse way that involves a cubist abacus IT DIDN'T DO WORSE.

He's cute.. It could be a good thing that he's virtually unknown, unless he is known and I've just never heard of him WHATEVER.

No, it's not just you. He is fairly unknown, but I think he's got a Shatnerish look about him. It's the eyes, especially when he smiles(I looked at a clip from some movie he was in on Youtube). Wow, $150 million? I didn't realise they were pumping that much in.. and it's not on the cast, so it must be on set building and effects. Woo?
