Official Trek 11 countdown/news thread

The scene descriptions fucking suck balls. Abrahms has already come out and says he thinks that Trek is silly and ridiculous and that it never achieved "for him" its promise of adventure because the budget was low in the TV series.

Yeah? YEAH?

Well FUCK YOU!

I hate that I am being such a snotty Trek purist since I didn't think it was my style but I am sick of people fucking Trek up that don't really understand it to begin with. So I guess I am.

I know the movie isn't out and it's stupid to judge it without seeing it but I haven't liked ANYTHING I've heard about this movie since it was announced.

The boat isn't terrible but it isn't good either.

It looks like a kitbash. That looks like a stock saucer stuck on some streamlined bollocks. The nacelles are retarded as well. It still looks reasonably good simply because they haven't deviated that far from the perfect refit model. Still really not sure though.

I just wonder where those shuttles are going to land since it looks like they have tapered the shuttlebay down to nothing

I feel the same way in a sense, Menty. I hate to sound like some obsessed fan who can't take it that they're making the show "cool", but fuck what Abrams said, TOS was ALL ABOUT adventure. Maybe it's because I've watched it since I was a little boy, but the "cardboard sets" and cheesy effects are completely beside the point, it's the stories and the characterisation that mattered, and TOS did very well in that department.

I suppose Abrams also thinks stage productions are "silly" because they don't have $100m spent on them.

And isn't Kirk pretending to be ill and then his tongue and hands swelling up rather, well, silly?

If the trailer is any indication of this movie, I just have one thing to say. This movie is one, huge, large, abomination of Star Trek continuity I have even seen. One minute into the trailer, I thought to myself that JJ possibily botched what little of original Star Trek canon that was left.

Please keep in mind I have been watching Star Trek since I was 4 years old, and I am currently 37. So that is 33 years of Star Trek under my belt. I watched all TOS, TNG, DS9, Some of VOY and ENT. I could do into how the ship looks which is a violation of continuity, how the bridge looks which is a violation of continuity, how young the cast is when in reality Bones and Scotty were a good 10 years younger than Kirk, which is CANON, ect ect. I could even pick on how Chris Pine, a very good actor playing Kirk is over 6' tall when William Shatner is only 5'8". But that I can overlook.

First and formost, the first thing I saw in the trailer was a teenage James T. Kirk driving a 1966 Chevrolet Corvette. I loved that concept, I loved see a car that was built and the same year as the original Star Trek debuted, and it was cool to see Kirk drive that Vette the way that he did. However there is one little problem.

JAMES T. KIRK CAN'T DRIVE.

That's right, Kirk can't drive which was established in the TOS episode "A Piece of the Action". Kirk and Spock beamed down to a planet where the Iosians used a mobster book left behind by another Starship 100 years prior. The entire planet was like the Chicago Mobs of the 1920's, which I believe was the name of that book in that episode. Dressed and acting like 1920's mobsters, carrying their tommy guns, Kirk and Spock went into a 1920's type vehicle and Kirk attempted to drive. Kirk was grinding the gears, and kept poping the clutch to where the car continued to jerk. After Kirk stalled the car a couple of times, Spock turned to Kirk and said "You are an excellent Starship Captain, but you are a lousey driver".

If they violated that concept, as well as the design of the ship, and the look of the bridge, then I would hate to know what else was violated.

I could accept if this movie was a re imaginating, or a remake and not a prequel. However what makes this movie a prequel and not a remake or re imagination, is the fact that Leonard Nimoy is cast as an older Spock. If it was intended that this movie is NOT canon, then I would accept that too.

I also believe this movie may be an insult to the original fans of TOS, which made all of the spinoff TV shows and movies possible.

LOL, trekkies.

I'd like to violate him with a broom handle, and see how he liked a piece of that action

And if you think about it for even less than the amount of time it took to type that drivel, crashing a car after driving it in a straight line dosnt mean you are good at driving, if anything, quite the opposite.

And isn't Kirk pretending to be ill and then his tongue and hands swelling up rather, well, silly?

If by silly you mean 'contrived and stupid', then yes, it's very silly.

GREAT SCOTT.

I am still amazed by the amount of people who claim canon violation in a film whose central premiss is romulan interference in the timeline.

How did the Romulans push Chekov's birth far enough back to make him old enough to be in this story? Plain and simple, this film is a caricature of Star Trek made by people who don't know the rules of the playground they're on, accompanied by those who do know the rules and don't give enough of a glimmer of a shit to follow 'em.

That wins everything there is to win.

It's really getting too easy to do things like that, isn't it.

No wonder those studios and record labels are so antsy.

These are scary times we live in.

The next internet meme.
