I'm fortunate. I love all of Texas. I enjoyed Alabama, Colorado, and Arizona too when I lived there. I didn't care much for living in California but I'd definitely visit there again.
West Texas has its charm. Have a little story about Van Horn.
On my way to California, I stopped at the gas station/convenience store/restaurant on the highway in Van Horn in the spring of 1985. Was driving an old brown Rambler. Had a basic conversation with the clerk - hello, the weather, on my way, etc. On my way from Arizona back to Texas in August of 1988 I stopped at that same gas station/convenience store/restaurant and as I walked in the door the clerk greeted me and asked me about California and asked me what happened to the Rambler, etc. Either that guy had a very good memory or not many people stop by his little store on the highway passing through Van Horn.
Gotta love dramatic sunrises and sunsets to appreciate West Texas. Lots of history out that way too - ghosts, dust, and tumbleweeds.
