The Tomtrek

Love Wookiee
Prometheus is going to be the best god damned film of this year better than Batman better than The Avengers and I don't care who knows it.

Why do the aliens always want to kill us? WHY CAN'T THEY JUST MAKE SEXYTIME WITH US OR SOMETHING?

This film is the prequel to the film that explains exactly why you don't want to have sexytime with aliens (Alien).

It looks really, really, really good. What else is there to say?

(The ship's a bit over detailed, isn't it? It looks like they made it out of lego and used every last brick they had)

he gave thoughtful answers. Looking forward to seeing how he will scare us with his story of human evolution.

*whispers*

of course not. I just said that to lull headvoid into a false sense of toshness. He won't be able to resist watching it now.

I have to admit it actually looks like a big pile of gorgeous.

My problem is with them revisiting the Alien storyline again. It is an aversion to risk that I have a problem with. If we spend a fuck load of money on something now, it has to either have a major history and fanbase (usually superhero) or be part of a timeline. Some of these timelines are so well trodden they have to go backwards or even "alternate" such as Trek.

Why have we stopped making classic science fiction novels into films? There are plenty to go at, but the aversion to risk is crippling creativity. Who wouldn't go and see Rendezvous with Rama? Currently stuck in development hell - even with Morgan Freeman standing beside it...

A cynic would say that this looks like someone gave Stargate SG1 $700 million to make one episode with Ridley Scott as director.

Well, they did John Carter and that doesn't seem to have turned out too well. It seems whenever they try to launch a new scifi franchise they put all the money into the effects, rather than bothering much about the story.

so are we saying the present pack of scifi writers in the film industry have no original ideas? Sacré bleu!
