Repubotards reach all new levels

That's not to say I want to crush debate (unlike the republicans after 9/11). Debate all you want. Shout your opinions from the mountain tops. Engage the president, the public, the press - make your case with tooth and claw and nail. But when all is said and done and the president calls the play, back him up for once your pricks.

The House Dems put every pet project they could think of in the bill. The Republicans, knowing the Senate would likely cut a large chunk of it out, decided to wait around until the second version of the Bill comes around.

While I disagree with some specifics (I believe Mass Transit to be an infastructure investment/job creation, not pet project) overall I agree that this bill was too pork laden for anyone claiming to be a fiscal conservative to vote for. Just like I don't think that anyone who voted for the Patriot Act could be considered a social libertarian.

You're right. However, the UK still trades in sterling. It's one of the only few EU countries that doesn't use the Euro. That's why I set it apart.

I knew you were gonna go down this road. See, this is the problem inherent in the US today. People are expecting the government to fix things for them. That's incredible laziness. That's not what this country was founded upon. It's not the responsibility of the government to solve our problems. We, the people, are responsible for that. All the government needs to do is provide these few things:

1. Military for the defense of the country
2. Police to enforce the laws of the country
3. Courts to punish or exonerate those accused of breaking the law
4. Fire and emergency services
5. Infrastructure (roads)
6. Healthcare (now this next part is important) for those who cannot provide it for themselves

That's it. The Government has absolutely NO place in the economy. None. Not one iota.

Regan Reagan said it best in his very non-disjointed, non-bullshit, non-propagandist inaugural address, "This is a people with a government. Not the other way around."

Ok, I put forth this question again:
What is the purpose of government?

Original intent vs results of it's actions?

The only bureaucratic nonsense we need is the payroll department to pay the individuals I mentioned above.

What about people to make the laws?
What about people to determine who can and cannot provide healthcare for themselves?
What about prisons to hold the people convicted of breaking the law?
What about public education?

Point of information: what business does government have deciding who can and cannot provide healthcare for themselves?

I have my own thoughts, but I'd like to hear Conchaga answer that first, since he brought it up.

I never said we didn't need a legislature. But, they don't need six-figure salaries, and they don't need a special building to get together and compare activist buttons.

Inherent in the system.

What about public education?

LOL! What about it? Fuck public education. Private education is the way to go. Run schools like businesses. Private Colleges and Universities get along quite nicely without government involvement.

1/3 of EU member states are not in the Eurozone.

Are those 1/3 of the EU countries first-world countries, like the US and the UK? Are their currencies stronger or just fractions of the dollar?

My answer to those questions is no, and the latter, respectively.

OECD member, 13th largest economy in the world, and GDP per capita of $27K (PPP).

That's higher than most countries of Southern Europe.

So, you haven't been to S. Korea? 'Cause, if you had, you'd've seen that their country may have a lot of money, but it's FAR from first world.

Depends on your definition of 1st world, but almost all economists classify it as a developed economy. Even if you wanted to make the claim that it was a MDC that is quite far from 'third world shithole' which was your original assertion.

So now Sweden and Denmark aren't first world either?!?!? Where the hell are you getting your definitions of 1st world?!?! :wtf:

*I* changed the subject? I didn't bring up the global gag rule, you did. Classic responses from your type - do you share a paint by numbers card? First derail the thread, then claim I derailed the thread and am afraid of you. Next claim victory and say I'm pwnd.

PS> Throw in a few words like ad hominem so it sounds like you know something about debate when you clearly don't.

Notice how he ignores my post with yet another ad hominem attack?

What a joke. :mjdance:

I'd venture that S. Korea isn't First World because everyone's stuck to their monitors training for the next Starcraft tournament instead of having lives and therefore raising the standard of living. ;)
