So the new Robin Hood is kinda meh THE THREAD

Fuddlemiff

Is this real life?
Jonathan Woss is talking about it and I have work to do, so this thread

I watched the show last night. I was expecting it to be shallow, claiming lofty values of morality tales and filled with contrived and unlikely tricks involving arrows.

It so totally was. I mean, it looks nice, and the guy playing Robin Hood is sorta cute in a hobbitty furball kinda way, but Marion is cross-eyed and despite the action, it wasn't very exciting.

Another new Robin Hood? Didn't they know they could stop after the Michael Praed/Jason Connery era? That show = bestest. PLUS MUSIC BY CLANNAD.

If only Kevin Costner has listened...

I watched a bit, too family friendly and Marian wasn't even wearing a skimpy outfit EVEN THOUGH she was in the ads. False advertising, I TURNED OFF AND WEPT.

Trouble is, Robin Hood is fine for a two hour movie, where you have a resoltion, but its not something you really want to see every week.

Oh look, hes robing from the rich to give to teh poor.

Oh look, hes foiling the sheriffs plans, but not actually killing the sheriff

Oh look, hes doing the same thing every fucking week.

That's what made the 80s TV show interesting. The original Robin dies, and a new Robin emerges to keep the myth alive.

It was probably necessitated by Michael Praed saying "piss off I'm gonna be a low-budget action movie star", but it still worked...

WHEN WILL WE LEARN !!

This is our new Robin

who was described by the Radio Times as a "pipsqueak" of a hero.

I do think the wide-boy sauntering will get annoying fast. As if it wasn't bad enough that adverts made him look like a yob wearing a hoody, he then adopted a chavish "come on then!" type stride.

Simply stated: Ick.

Ahhhhhhh, much better.

Yes that red x certainly is.

How did they maintain designer stubble in the 10th century?

*picks up Gagh's Worf and smashes him against a tree*

Which they tottally ripped off animal house, as everyone does.

I'LL ADMIT TO ENJOYING PRINCE OF THIEVES OKAY LOL THE BLIND GUY DIDN'T KNOW MORGAN FREEMAN WAS BLACK

I enjoyed it and yes, it is full of "Quick, go after them" type lines and I cannot believe they have nicked the flamin arrow coming towards you shot.

But on a positive note:

1. Keith Allen as Sherrif- I can't get enough of this man, v good
2. Richard Armitage as Guy Gisbourne - also a good actor

I also should let you know I will be biaised on this as I am related to one of Robin Hoods Men. He played an absolute blinder in the first episode BTW.

All in all, it's a great family romp and good to see the BBC trying to claim that early evening Saturday slot as a family viewing slot. I enjoyed it, so did the kids.

The new Robin Hood, apparently, is physically incapable of looking directly at a camera.

I'LL GIVE IT ANOTHER GO ON SATURDAY

Alan a Dale I presume?

I'm hoping it gets more exciting once the gang is assembled.

IT WAS A BIT LIKE XENA OR HERCULES IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT
