Spartacus: Blood and Sand

Lucy getting fingered by a female slave:

Y'know, this show is remarkably consistent considering it plays so much on the sex and violence. Really well written and intelligent drama. Okay, I'm not saying it's The Wire or anything, but for a show about people who are trained to kill eachother for the amusement of others, it's pretty darn good!

Baciatus's plot this week was nicely done. Yeah, it was plain to see what his intentions were, but ithey kept us guessing about Ashur almost til the end. I thought that worked really well. And Sparty's dream sequence was a nice development too. If only dreams really did help us solve our problems in such a literal way. :)

Numerius next to be slaughtered?

I wasn't onto Batiatus' real plan until it actually happened! I thought he was going to kill that dude in front of his kid, not frame the other guy. I was sure Ashur was SRSLY planning to go against Batiatus because he wouldn't let him be a gladiator anymore. That whole bit was really good.. I don't think Lucretia even suspected how devious Batiatus could be.

OMG STILL HEART BROKEN OVER VARRO! and WOW, they are moving the story right along. I bet the slave uprising happens during season 2. DOES MIRAH EVEN KNOW SHE'S ON A TV SHOW? lol I like Andy Whitfield more and more, he's not the greatest actor but he's doing a good job playing the emotional wreck.

Loved Crixus in this episode too. His face acting is getting better! Loved the arena scenes!

I never know whether to like Crixus, but I was glad to see him regain his glory in this ep. Maybe I only like him when he's the underdog. Lucretia's anguish at having to leave before the fight was over was a nicely written moment. It's the kind of situation you can relate to easily. This show has a lot of that.

How are we going to survive the hiatus of this show? (dear lord baby Jesus, please cure Any Whitfield of his cancer)

I REALLY loved this episode. Andy's portrayal of Sparty just gets better and better. I KNEW something would happen to Crixus and Naevia to cause him to change his thinking on the whole glory in the arena thing (hasn't really happened yet, but it will). I hate Glaber! I hope Sparty cuts his head off soon. I had no idea what Batiatus had in the box, I half expected it to be Naevia's head, lol. I was wondering how they'd keep Ilithyia at the ludus, I guess they're going to save telling Glaber that Sparty fucked his wife for later.

Dual, I think you are right. The rebellion will probably get started in the finale, but they obviously won't have time to get very far and they'll leave us with a HUGE cliffhanger, the bastards.

They'll probably finish it with half the main characters with swords at their throats.

That was the best episode so far... so many storylines and secrets coming to a head. Just brilliant! Probably the best hour of tv I've seen in a long while, actually. Can't wait for next week's, but it'll be bittersweet!

I think my favorite part was when Sparty was kicking Glaber's men's asses ALL BY HIMSELF and in between each one he'd come back to stand in the middle, like it was nothing. Then when he kneeled to Glaber afterwords it was so intense OR SOMETHING. lol, I love this show. OH and I also loved it when he was in the arena with Solonius, and just before slicing his head off he made Solonius know that Batiatus wasn't safe at all.

Doctore was PISSED when he found out Batiatus killed Barca. Peter Mensah is one of those people I love to see in movies and TV shows. He's a good actor, and he has a really unique look about him. I LIKE HIM.

BLESS THEM ALL

P.S. Solonius had HUGE nipples. I liked when Ilythia complained that he'd always stare with his teeth sticking out. Tis true. :)

The CGI isn't so bad, because it's not as if they're actually aiming for photorealism here. Everything's overdone for dramatic effect. The gigantic cliff and vista beyond, the rays of the bowing sun streaking through the ragged awnings of the area and the torrents of blood sweeping over Spartacus every time he slays another opponent. They're not "awful", they're camp.

And the U's instead of V's are just there to bug people who don't understand they're supposed to be looking at the T's and A's.

Yes, camp! That is what one of the writers was saying about the dialogue too. It's supposed to be over the top, but it still has this great interesting story behind it. It's like we're watching someone tell the story of a legend.. OH we are watching the story of a legend! If someone was telling this story back then they'd play up the violence and the sex, and the larger than life heroics. Spartacus isn't just a gladiator, he's the slayer of Theocles, the bringer of rain, the champion of Capua.. HIS DONG IS HUGE (but not as big as the guy with the horse cock).

OMG I AM A TOTAL FANGIRL AND I DON'T CARE!

FUDDLEMIFF, DID YOU SEE IT?

Andy Whitfield is fucking gorgeous, I'm glad he finally gave Mira the dong. That scene was really sweet.

I can't believe Batiatus and Lucretia are dead! I thought they'd be stars of the show for a long time, but I guess they won't be in the ludas anymore, so they won't need those characters. PLUS it was sweet to see them both finally get what they had coming to them. I imagine that is one of the lessens of the story, don't be so greedy and don't reach above your station in life OR YOU WILL COME TO A BAD END.

The chick who plays Varro's wife reminds me of Anna Paquin a little! I was glad she stabbed that little bastard to death.

OMG I CAN'T WAIT FOR SEASON 2!

I was happy when they revealed that Doctore is Oenomaus, even though he's supposed to be a Gaul. It was pretty obvious that Batiatus and Lucretia were going to die; they needed to open up room to bring in Glaber and Crassus as the primary antagonists and Batiatus really just wouldn't fit into the military plot of the Servile Wars. Glad Illythia survived. :)

Really good finale! I liked that they built up the tension first rather than jumping straight into the rebellion. They handle the pacing so well on this show!

I was surprised they killed off Batiatus and Lucretia, because they're the biggest name actors in the show. I'm glad they had the balls to do it, though. It was great to see them get their comeuppance, along with Numerius. So typical that Ashur got away, though. :)

Hopefully season two will live up to expectations (and not go all Prison Break on us). Seems like they'd need a bigger budget, though, if the characters will be on the run and visiting lots of different locations.
