Star Trek 12 news/countdown thread

I really don't understand where this brain bug seems to come from about Khan. Why do people insist on assuming this film will have anything to do with Khan? From the information I've seen, it probably involves Gary Mitchell.

Here's the trailer for those of you without iTunes. Looks like Gary Mitchell is the villain.

Looks like the enteprise going into the water, possibly a different ship coming out?

Unless they have to reconfigure it somehow.

Tomtrek, Dirk, I think you posted that trailer in the wrong thread. It should go here.

I think you mean this thread.

Anyway. this Japanese trailer has an EXTRA SCENE at the end which totally looks like something it probably isn't:

OH GEE THANKS WACKY AT LEAST I EMBEDDED IT

On the plus side this owns (shamelessly stolen image):

On closer inspection the ship crashing into the water has the wrong nacelles for the enterprise, so maybe a whole bunch of ships get pulled down from orbit and splash down (or crash if they hit land)

Maybe it's like Flashforward where people blacked out for two minutes and it made planes fall out of the sky.

I like how this one is all "THIS TIME IT'S PERSONAL" when the previous movie villain killed Kirk's dad and Spock's mum.

So it looks like its going to be a sequel to the comic about Gary Mitchell where he died, and then they're almost going to merge him with Khan as he steals a ship and fights a submarine battle with the Enterprise?

Eh. I'm looking forward to it as a film, but not as Star Trek. It just feels like they've taken a few bits of Trek lore they like, jumbled them up and made a movie from all these random elements.

We should certainly give it a shot before making any real judgements on it. We've only had one film in the Alternate Universe, and it was pretty good. I have high hopes for this one. What would actually be really cool, is since Abrams does the Alternate Universe aspect so well, a feature film taking place in the Mirror Universe would be incredible. The ENT two-parter "In a Mirror, Darkly" was awesome. An entire feature film with all the characters as complete and total assholes would be quite interesting, IMO.
