Star Trek 12 news/countdown thread

Scuttlebutt has it that Gary Mitchell will be the villain of Trek 12. GARY MITCHELL?!?! He wasn't the villain of TOS's "Where No Man Has Gone Before". He had an unfortunate accident on the REAL Delta Vega was all. As did Dr Elizabeth Dehner. I hope that's incorrect. It's a grave misreading & gross misunderstanding of "WNMHGB" to think Mitchell was that episode's 'villain'. There's NOTHING wrong with Mitchell being in Trek 12, nor with Benedict Cumberpatch playing him, so long as Trek 12's Mitchell isn't some half-baked horrible reimagining of the character, assuming/if BC is playing Mitchell & not Harry Mudd or some other character. Having Mitchell be Teh Villain would be character assassination. Well, character hijacking, then assassination.

Regarding that leaked "scene" from Trek 12, my theory is, and ONLY read this if you've seen Ridley Scott's last movie:

that it's a snippet(s) from Zombie Fifield's homicidal attack on the Prometheus crew in the launch bay. My first thought upon seeing this alleged "scene" was "That's Zombie Fifield! That's a snippet of the Zombie Fifield Attacks Scene from Prometheus." That would make sense as Lindelof is involved in BOTH flicks.

Might I be right?

The suits look nothing alike, so no.

Maybe Trek 12 will be a ST remake of Richard Donner's "Superman: The Movie" with a radically reimagined ("butchered") Harry Mudd in/filling in the Gene Hackman Lex Luthor role/niche. The preamble to Trek 12 would then feature Khan & Co. being sent off from 1996 Earth ala General Zod & Co. at the beginning of Donner's "Superman".

Trek 13 would then follow in Trek 12's footsteps & be a ST remake of "Superman II" (the 1981 theater version; NOT Richard Donner's Cut), with Khan & Co. in/filling in Zod & Co.'s role/niche. Here are snippets from Trek 13:

Khan to Captain Kirk &/or various other characters throughout the flick -

"KNEEL BEFORE KHAN!"

Khan tells Harry Mudd -

"Harry Mudd, Ruler of Pacifica, activate the machine."

Let's hope Abrams, Lindelof, et al DON'T go down this road.

Maybe INTO DARKNESS will be a crossover with Alias and the characters will spend the whole movie pretending Jennifer Garner is good looking.

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

So, Gary Mitchell then?

Last movie they blew up Vulcan, this time Earth?

Will Mitchell wear a Bane mask and talk about Earth being a cancer and him being the cure...for cancer?

I'm sure they'll be lots of mindless killing! And that's what we all want from Star Trek, right?

To seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly lead a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

For the life of me, I can't help but wonder on occasion if the "alternate" universe isn't really the early days of the mirror universe....

My first reaction is that it sounds like a terrific movie and a terrible Star Trek movie.

My second reaction is that "detonated" is an odd word to use. Does Gary Mitchell literally blow up the whole fleet? That would seem possible at the height of his powers, though it makes you wonder how he could possibly be defeated. A tombstone falling on his head probably won't do it.

Eh. I think the Gary Mitchell story has lots of potential, but why set it on Earth? How's that a Star Trek? Not that I would complain about seeing lots of future Earth, as we only ever saw short glimpses of it in the Prime Universe, but I was hoping they'd take advantage of the budget and technological advances to flesh out the epic scope of the galaxy and space exploration. Not start the movie with "so, that exploration stuff we did was fun, huh?" and spend the rest of the screentime at home fighting Evil British Guy #83494347.

I'll mention AGAIN that Gary Mitchell is already dead in the official comic which is supposed to be in continuity with the movies.

So maybe he really is Khan.

I was just using Gary Mitchell as something to call him until we find out his real name. It sounds as though he'll serve a very similar role. They did also say that the new movie's plot was being hinted at by the comics, so maybe they were using Mitchell to introduce the idea and then Cumberbatch will play someone with the same condition.

They're gonna call it Stardate: O-dark-thirty.

And for the record, Sarek's idea would kick so much ass it would break the internet. First scene of Trek 12:Spock rolls in sporting a soul patch (early days, pre-goat).

And a hitler stache if they want to be all controverial and edgy.
