Strange New Worlds season 3

Which part did you agree with? Because I said I enjoyed it, then you said you agreed and proceeded to call it stupid... did you read the whole thing? lol

Yes, I read the whole thing. I was referring to the part about the serum.

Happy birthday:

Babs Olusanmokun (41)!
Christina Chong (42)!

AMAZING THAT THEY WERE BORN ON THE EXACT SAME DAY* WHAT A MASSIVE FUCKING COINCIDENCE, SURELY PROOF OF GOD'S EXISTENCE.

She is lovely. I hope she dances more. They could do a ST spinoff where she teaches a dance class for genetically modified humans, like Dr Bashir and his weird friends. Hopefully none of her dance class will require a fainting couch to lounge sexily on at all times.

Okay, 3.9:
Okay, we saw the Ortega-centric SNW take on Balance of Terror, and now it's time for the Ortega-centric SNW take on The Arena, complete with an appearance by The Metrons. Given the end scene of Episode 3.1 where we saw the Gorn in Ortegas' reflection, I was expecting a lot more apprehension on her part with the Gorn, but she seemed to fall into the 'Oh, okay, we're both trying to survive. I guess I won't try to kill you" attitude rather fast. It was all heart-warming and it made for a gut-wrenching ending, but it just felt as though she became willing far too easy for someone with such a deep-seeded hatred. And I can only hope that Uhura also met some sort of consequence, even a formal reprimand in her file, for fudging the results and possibly putting the entire ship at risk. If Ortegas has to meet consequences, so should Uhura for consistency. Overall a good episode, but... it just didn't grab me. Apparently 3.10 will make up for all that with all the feels?

Uhura's fudging the data is consistent with a theme through all of ST... the human factor will almost always help throw the odds in their favor. Kirk lived by it.

Pike knew she did it, and went with it anyway.

Stuff like this takes ST out of the realm of cold science fiction and places it into Roddenberry's theme of "The Human Adventure."

I really didn't think about this until you brought it up.

Just remembered how they introduced a 3-armed bartender early in the season, in a way which suggested she'd be a recurring charavter, then we never saw her again. That was annoying.

Wow, I forgot about that. Yeah.

On a different note: I was watching some rando on YT do a post-mortem on Disney's Doctor Who, and he brought up something interesting. He claimed that one big reason Disney didn't go for a season 3 (besides the toilet ratings) was that they had wanted to get the classic and Nu-Who episodes too for streaming, but the BBC wouldn't give them up.

So what's this to do with Star Trek? Patience.

He gave Paramount+ as an example. Paramount gets higher ratings for packaging and running old TOS, TNG and other series than they do for STD or SNW. They were using those as a lure to get people to watch the time honored stuff.

If true, that would explain why SNW did weird things with canon... it didn't matter. It was just a gateway drug to get people into the stuff that people have always liked.

Nah, to a lot of so-called "Trek Fans", they think of it as an STD.
It's stupid. Regardless of what these people think of the quality of the show, that isn't the abbreviation. It makes them look like fucking casuals. There is no Star Trek series that has a three letter abbreviation that starts with ST. None of them. The official abbreviation given by Paramount is DSC.

Ahhhh, you must be the actually... guy...

Okay, so... the one single thing you took from my post was that I "used the wrong abbreviation for the show."

Wow. That's some spergy bullshit.
I'm a diagnosed autistic. I'm not sure what else you would expect.

See, you need an editor. An assistant. A second voice.

Me? Before I post anything heavy, I always run it by Jen first. She always has one of three answers. It's either "yeah, that's cool" or "that's sort of dumb" or "Oh Goddamn! You're not going to post that, are you?"

That last one is the one I always post.
