The more I hear about Trek XI the more I dislike it.

Srsly. I haven't really liked much of anything that I've heard so far. I'm trying to keep an open mind and it sounds like it will probably be a decent space action romp of a movie with some good performances but the plot points that are getting leaked sound so fucking lame.

It doesn't help that 90% of TBBS members are aggressively pro about this movie and go mental when anyone cites a concern. I've seen it happen in every thread that anyone with a legitimate point about how this movie is sounding shite so far has had.

I've noticed that on TrekBBS, especially from old Tin Man himself Dennis Bailey (Starship Polaris). I mean I agree with SOME of what he says but he relishes in being a cunt about it. Which is fair enough...what was I saying?

I'll read that JJ thing in a bit, I'm busy going MEEP.
 
read it, well, it's a bit misleading, they make it look like they've got JJ commenting on every individual scene of the trailer but obviously they've just pasted comments from various interviews.

Kirk hiding in Uhura's room is...not Kirk.
 
It's nice to see somebody who hasn't liked what they have seen so far.

Things about this movie don't make sense/are odd, even by Trek standards. Like why are they all the same age, and the bridge design.I'm not entirely sure what the plot is about, apart from what they indicated in the commentary.

The one slide I did like was the USS Kelvin, it looked like ships of the time. One thing I have no issue with is that Kirk and Spock were not friends at first, nothing in TOS ever indicated they were instantly friends, just that they had been good friends for some time.

I am going to see it when it comes out.

We start the movie with Romulans crossing paths with Starfleet and jump right in breaking the rules, which I think is kind of fun.

I wounder if JJ Abrams ever read any Trek history, specifically about the romulans.

I hated the idea from the start. Interestingly enough, that has prepared me for this stage, and the details don't seem to bother me as much.

I'm already at peace with the fact that the project is an abomination against God, so I really don't sweat the "little" things, like the ship design or Chekhov's age.
 
Or when it turns out Spock has a Klingon cousin.

Well his attitude so far has been less than enthralling. That's pretty clear to see.

But the plot itself sounds shit. He's changing things that don't need to be changed in favor of the shittiest alternatives.

The apologetics at TBBS are completely deaf to any reasonable concern over the direction he's taking an already battered franchise in that is on its last legs already and needs something special to make it soar again.

And frankly, we've seen how non-fans do with Trek already. Not that well.

He never meant to make Kate annoying either.

So far Kirk doesn't sound like the charasmatic legend he was in TOS that could get away with being an arrogant pig because he was fucking awesome.

It's more like...LET'S MAKE HIM ALL ANGSTY AND JAMES DEAN REBEL STYLEZ! IT WILL BE SOOOO COOL!

OK, so I don't really know how the plot fits together and haven't seen the performances so I could be waaaay off. And I'll be really happy if I am. But everything I've heard from J.J has been shitty.

We need someone with the passion Peter Jackson had for Tolkien. Not someone who thought Trek was stupid, was never a fucking fan and sees the need to change Trek so that he could have been a fan.

Not that Trek doesn't need an overhaul. It really does. Just not convinced that J.J is the person who's vision should be transposed on it.
