The Walking Dead season 2

Really good episode! It felt like it went on forever, but in a good way. I probably could've happily watched the whole season in one sitting, as it was quite engrossing. Really surprised they didn't find Sofia and REALLY surprised at that ending! Damn, that's gonna leave a scar!

It was good. The zombie attack was really well done. Lori is still fucking annoying with her "stay away from my son, you jerk!"/"why are you being a jerk and staying away from my son!?" stuff. The cliffhanger was good. I could complain about characters not being the same as the comic but I suppose that doesn't matter if you haven't read the comic (but comic Andrea would slap tv Andrea.)

I want to see the Governor!!!

I got ten bucks says the Governor doesn't show up until the finale of season 2 or the start of season 3.

And I got another ten bucks says they either make Merle into the Governor character or he is directly involved as a high ranking flunkie.

That's twenty bucks.

Okay it's only ten.

Okay, they're Chuck E Cheese Bucks.

And I ain't giving them up even if I am wrong.

But I got them, and that's what they say.

I don't have any Chuck E Bucks.

I watched the first episode on my laptop, and you know what?

Zombies are scarier when they're in your lap.

Very interesting, what they're up to this season,

:SPOILER ALERT:

...when they cut open that zombie to see if he'd eaten the little girl, all that action was directly off camera. It was fun the way they handled it, but that "cost cutting" bullshit looks like it's already in play.

Still...some of the staging is FABULOUS and it appears the story is getting back on track again. I'm really glad it's finally back on.

Whenever I'm walking outside (not often, of course!) I start thinking about what I would do if a zombie attacked and planning my escape.

Frank Darabont still listed as an Exec Producer....hrmm.

Good ep. I see the farm is upcoming...I'll back Dono's prediction. The jail and the governor will be season 3, if they stick to close to the comic storyline.

I hadn't noticed that bit Jack mentioned, and like was mentioned Darabont was still involved heavily in the early episodes, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of those scenes were trimmed for budget. Like the wandering herd of zombies: aside from a couple crowd shots, we got an awful lot of feet. And only two zombies chased the girl.

Still, done correctly the "hidden zombies" can heighten the tension and use our imaginations to ratchet up the terror.

Remember what he said he'd been asked "hey, maybe the survivors could only hear the zombies?"

I think those shots worked just fine. Seeing their feet rather than lots of full bodies is closer to what everyone under the cars would've seen anyway and it'll make us less desensitised next time we do see a big group of zombies.

No doubt, if there are zombie coming out of every dark spot it will become just a joke. For me, aside from the
zombie herd scene

the two creepiest segments were the part where

Carl gets the rolled up package from the dead driver and the scene in the church. The first was effective because, like Carl we don't know if at any minute the driver will sit up and take a bite. And the church, where the zombies were just sitting quietly until the survivors walked in, was kind of sad.

The crowd scene was good, but spoiled a little by the endless play in trailers. Ruined the surprise effect for me because they showed that sequence in every frigging preview clip.

Some of the things I like best about the series are the varying activity levels of the dead; just like in life, there are some real aggressive go-getters, some dogged pursuers, some lazy fuckers that just sort of wait around for food to show up, and a couple who just lie there and rot. They even seem to make a few seem smarter than others, another thing I like to see when done right. I'm not saying I want to hear "Braiiiins" but I do like that some seem to retain a little bit higher reasoning skills. Heightens the danger.

As for the series: hopefully the explosive popularity will encourage them to keep the show on its current level of production. The opening ratings certainly didn't hurt...

Yeah, the church scene was plain bizarre.

When that dude stood up and turned around with that big zombie grin on his face, it was definitely an Ewww moment.

I really am liking Darryl too, and not just because he's Murphy McManus.
