The Walking Dead season 2

I'm not sure if I liked that zombies sitting in the church. We we supposed to think they were praying (well, Jesus was the first zombie)? Were they remembering their real life and and going to the church out of habit? I don't really like any attempt to humanise zombies (it's not something they did in the comics.)

Well it's not something they could graphically show very well in comics, it's kind of a static medium. As for humanizing them; that's kind of been a focus of this show since the beginning, the concept that these are not just horrible maneating monsters, they were people once as well and very likely met horrible ends. Remember the first episode, when Rick made a point to go back and shoot Bicycle Lady? He apologized to her first. And later when they chopped up the zombies for smell, he made a point to get out the dead man's wallet. They've been doing this kind of stuff since day one.

I think it amplifies the horror of the situation by those little scenes, as people try desperately to retain some sort of humanity in the face of this event, or as people like Walt (from season 1?) try to muster up the courage to shoot loved ones in the face, or zombies come in the shape of old people or brides or little girls. And if you read Kirkman's story arcs and interviews, as he puts Rick and the others through the wringer again and again that's exactly what he's aiming for.

It's been sort of a zombie trope since around Dawn of the Dead that zombies tend to go places that they would go in life (like the mall!). So I don't think it's too unusual to have them sitting in a church. Especially as that's where a lot of people would go in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.

I like those kinds of scenes too...as long as they don't get too intelligent and humanlike. I think it was the sitting that made it weird. Do zombies sit? I don't remember seeing zombies sitting often. It was a creepy scene and I agree that we should never forget the zombie used to be human...it's just something that potentially could be taken too far (but hasn't yet!)

I hope we see scenes of the characters observing and discussing zombie behaviour. That kind of stuff interests me.

Well they did this past week when they opened them up to see if they could find the little girl in one.

Romero proved in the theory that the zombies don't eat for sustenance. Remember that scene in Dawn where there's a half eviscerated still alive zombie strapped to the table with no stomach or digestive tract, yet it's still trying to eat.

Funny that same question came up on another board, when some people were arguing over zombie sense of smell and whether they'd be able to detect them under the cars. My question was, if zombies are actually eating and swallowing flesh, yet their digestive systems don't function, do their abdomens just pile up meal after meal until they explode? Or do zombies poop?

I thought it was a valid question...

One of the things they've shown in the series, and one of the details I really like, is that there are varying levels of activity in zombies. Some are aggressive as hell go-getters, some are aimless shamblers, and a few like those on the bus in atlanta or the soldier in the tank, just kind of lay there and vegetate until something comes along.

Basically like real life lol.

I like those with no legs crawling for food. I know I'd be the lazy zombie thinking to myself FUCK THIS

Yeah, I'd like to think I'd be an aggressive, run-all-over-the-fucking-place zombie, preferably one who retains enough memory to go find people I used to know who deserve to have the shit chomped outta them; but more likely I'd say the zombie equivalent of "Ahhh, fuck it" and sit back down on the couch.

Pretty much like now...

And hopefully the TV is on when you plop back down on the couch. And it's a good station that shows quality all the time.

I don't think they have a super sense of smelling or anything. They can tell the difference between humans and other zombies by smell (which is why the humans disguised themselves with zombie guts last season) but they can't smell out the living from a distance or anything.

I wondered about the shitting too...

I dont see why they wouldnt shit, the only other alternative would be for their stomachs to burst open, which being dead wouldnt kill them.

Good first episode, very unlike most TV shows where not only did they not find the girl, but the boy got shot too.

The dozens of cars all over the road looked expensive, if some of them were CGI it was very well done.

My wife raised a point I couldn't answer.

How come some dead people are zombies, and some are just dead people?

I wasn't clear on how the people in the cars died. If they'd been bitten by zombies then they would've turned as well, so I guess they must've starved or died in crashes.

I was really impressed with the CGI as well. Normally you can tell where the split is with set extensions (you always could with BSG, though admittedly that was a few years ago now), but I couldn't tell how many real cars were on that road.

You know you'd think that'd be important somehow, but then I think of the shit I'll sit and watch now, and I figure it won't matter what channel it's on...

Last night's was another good one, though it seemed a bit of a filler episode.

Norman Reedus is a G O D

Stupid short commercials.

I can't believe T-Dogg is bringing race into this all the sudden. Dude, you're hurt and would slow everybody down. He needs to get eaten soon, and not in a sexy way. If this is how his character is going to be, he's useless.

I was watching this at a friend's house last night, and I was saying the first place I go when this shit happens is a pharmacy. Stock up on my pills and anything else I can get my hands on. Marv had the right idea, even if he did have some X and Meth in there. My kinda man.

Well remember the end of the last season.

Blonde girl wants to stay and get burned, beardy white bloke says he will stay and die too if she dosnt leave, they leave together.

Black girl says she wants to stay and get burned too, beardy white bloke says "ok then"
