Things you love about Star Trek

The theatrical phrase "Chekhov's Gun" actually originated from legends about Koenig's sexual prowess.

He and Burt Ward (Robin from Batman) would swing their big ones all over Hollywood during the 3-year period that both their shows were on the air.

Chekhov's gun is a narrative principle that states every element in a story must be necessary; anything irrelevant should be removed. The principle, attributed to Russian playwright Anton Chekhov, suggests that if a loaded rifle is introduced in the first act, it must be fired by the third act, or it shouldn't be there at all. This applies to any detail, including physical objects, character traits, or pieces of information, which must have a payoff or purpose later in the story

Does anyone know the story of Kirk's alternate green shirt, with the wrap around and the badge at the waist? To a lesser degree Picard's jacket. Because that's kind of "fuck it, Kirk had a weird alternate green shirt, let's give Picard a jacket."

I know there were two versions of Picard's jacket, one with leather shoulders and one with suede.

I remember reading that Chris Pine didn't look good in that mustard color or something, which is why he didn't wear the standard uniform shirt much in those movies.

Reports indicate that Abramsverse is bleeding demised.

The fact that's it's been almost 10 years since the last one, and that Star Trek: Beyond was... let's face it, horrible... yeah I'm not surprised one damned bit.

Has it been that long?

Yeah, it was a turkey, but not nearly offensive as Star Trek Into Darkness.

The first one was an interesting experiment in Abrams' approach to time travel and the Grandfather Paradox, which he talked about in LOST.

Cool one shot movie. That's all.

With the passing of Anton Yelchin, the passing of Spock Prime, the fact that everyone is ten years older now, they'd have to have a major time jump and the question is whether or not Paramount/Skydance wants to plug that much money into rekindling a movie franchise that was polarizing to begin with, when they're already dealing with a polarizing fanbase over series like Star Trek Academy.

If they'd just give fans what they want, which is what they did with Strange New Worlds, we'd all be watching Star Trek: Legacy next year with the adventures of Captain Seven.

I actually enjoyed ST: Beyond. 🤷 I also liked Solo. I feel like they were victims to the movie before them being so bad no one went.

To be fair, I've only seen Beyond once. And the only thing I remember is the Sabotage scene.

I've been a fan my whole life and I do not want this. The Picard show was godawful, as much as I loved those characters I don't want to see another brain dead Star Trek show that shits all over them again. Empty fanservice has the opposite of it's intended effect on me these days.

As a brand, Star Trek has no creative integrity anymore. They need to shelve it for 20 years and then come back with some fresh, thoughtful talent that wants to do something compelling and relevant with it as a science fiction story; but that won't happen on any timescale.

I should clarify that I have no real problem with SNW since it's a genuine attempt to make a Star Trek show, I don't want the people behind any season of the Picard show to have anything to do with any sort of audiovisual media project that anyone else has to look at for any reason.

That's why I'm worried about Marvel's upcoming VisionQuest -- it's being EP'd by Terry Matalas (Picard S2-S3) instead of Jac Schaeffer, who created WandaVision and Agatha All Along...
