USGA announces current U.S. Open field; Tiger Woods not in it

The USGA announced the 84 players currently in the field for next month's major championship at Los Angeles Country Club, and Tiger Woods is not among them as he recovers from leg surgery. Woods had April surgery to address post-traumatic arthritis in his right ankle that was caused by injuries suffered in a February 2021 car wreck. He played in the Masters before the surgery, making the cut before withdrawing due to injury, but missed the PGA Championship this past week. He remains without a timetable to return.

Subject: Cease and Desist - Disruptive Behavior

Dear Charles (@blackfoot NAP ; @C-40)

I am writing to address the persistent and disruptive activities that have become synonymous with your presence at TROLL KINGDOM. Your continuous posting of articles without any meaningful engagement, the incessant updating of threads with copied content, and the blatant use of "sock" accounts to manipulate post interactions, are detrimental to the community.

This letter serves as an explicit demand for the immediate cessation of these disruptive behaviors. TROLL KINGDOM is a space intended for substantive and meaningful discussions; your actions are not only counterproductive but actively detrimental to the community's atmosphere.

Your current online conduct reflects poorly on your own character and undermines the quality of interaction for genuine members seeking valuable discourse. It is evident that your approach deviates from the communal spirit TROLL KINGDOM strives to uphold.

I strongly urge you to reconsider your online conduct and recalibrate your approach to align with the ethos of TROLL KINGDOM. Failure to comply with this demand will leave me with no option but to escalate the matter further.

I trust that you will take this communication seriously and act promptly to rectify your online behavior.

Sincerely,

The PGA Tour's regular season might be over, but men's golf silly season is underway, starting with this week's Hero World Challenge at Albany in the Bahamas. The non-official event brings 20 of the tour's best players together -- including perhaps the greatest of all, Tiger Woods, who will be playing for the first time in more than seven months.

Tiger Woods now world No. 898 after 18th at limited-field, no-cut Hero

In what is sure to further rankle LIV Golf players, Tiger Woods vaulted 430 spots in the Official World Golf Ranking after finishing 18th out of 20 golfers in his invitational Hero World Challenge on Sunday. Woods, who was making his first start since withdrawing from the Masters in April due to a foot injury, had fallen to a career-low 1,328th in the OWGR by last week. He made his return at the Bahamas, and while the 47-year-old surprised many with his solid play, Woods bested only two players in the field. That didn't prevent Woods from climbing to 898th in the OWGR, his highest since before withdrawing from the 2022 PGA Championship.

What to expect from Tiger Woods this year, on and off the course

The results were probably what Tiger Woods should have expected in last week's Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas. In his first start in more than seven months, the 15-time major champion finished even par and 18th out of 20 players in the unofficial PGA Tour event. More importantly, though, Woods' surgically repaired right ankle and foot didn't trouble him while walking 72 holes at Albany. He had fusion surgery April 19 to relieve post-traumatic arthritis caused by injuries in a February 2021 car wreck. Woods said last week that his right ankle was essentially "bone-on-bone" before his latest procedure. On top of the injuries, Woods is also battling Father Time. He turns 48 on Dec. 30. He's competing against golfers who are much younger than he is, most of them in their 20s and 30s.

TIGER’S 82 WINNING SHIRTS

Tiger Woods announced his partnership with Nike has come to and end. During 27 years with the brand, Woods was seen 82 times in a Nike-branded shirt -- most often red -- holding up a trophy on a Sunday. (There were three times he didn’t wear red, but we’ll get to that later.) The tradition of the red began with his mother, Kultida, who believes this is “his power color.” What follows is a study of primary shirt colors in all those wins -- in PGA Tour events and major championships. Shirt colors were compiled from photos of each Woods victory, and sorted by hex color into categories: dark red, light red, burgundy and non-red. Only final-round shirts were used, excluding any sweaters, vests or jackets. The most prominent color visible was used when shirts had multiple colors.

Tiger Woods' son, Charlie, 15, to play Thursday in pre-qualifier

Charlie Woods, the son of 15-time major winner Tiger Woods, will compete in a pre-qualifier event as he bids to secure a place in the PGA Tour's Cognizant Classic next week in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Woods, 15, will play Thursday in an 18-hole event at Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida, one of four pre-qualifying sites, the PGA Tour website reported Wednesday. Approximately 25 players and ties from each of the four pre-qualifying sites will advance to a Monday qualifier, from which four players will earn spots in the Cognizant Classic held Feb. 29-March 3 at PGA National Resort.

Woods is scheduled to tee off at 7:39 a.m. ET Thursday alongside Olin Browne Jr. -- son of three-time PGA Tour winner Olin Browne Jr. and Ruaidhri. Woods has competed with his father in the past four editions of the PNC Championship -- a 36-hole event featuring two-player teams made up of a major champion and a family member -- and finished runner-up in 2021. Tiger Woods, who entered the year aiming to play one event a month, withdrew during the second round of last week's Genesis Invitational at Riviera with the flu, which brought an abrupt end to his first PGA Tour start since last April's Masters.
