Tom Brady is retiring from football after 22 seasons in which he won a historic seven Super Bowl titles, sources told ESPN. When Brady, widely considered the greatest quarterback in NFL history, left the field after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' loss to the Los Angeles Rams last weekend, he knew it was likely his final act as a football player, sources said. In the days since, he has spent time digesting that mindset and is preparing his retirement announcement along with the next chapter of his life and career, sources said. He won seven Lombardi trophies, the most championships won by a single player in NFL history, along with five Super Bowl MVPs. He piled up career records such as most touchdown passes (624) and most passing yards (84,250) in his 22 seasons.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady has officially announced his retirement from the NFL, saying Tuesday in an Instagram post that he is "not going to make that competitive commitment anymore." In his announcement, Brady thanked everyone with the Bucs, his business partners, his agents and his family. While he reflected on his career, he did not specifically mention his time with the Patriots or anybody within the organization in his statement, though he did later thank the team and its fans in response to a statement issued by Patriots owner Robert Kraft.

New Jersey man pleads guilty to fraud in Tom Brady Super Bowl ring scam

A New Jersey man pleaded guilty to fraud for posing as a former New England Patriots player in order to buy and sell Super Bowl rings that he claimed were gifts to Tom Brady's family. Scott V. Spina Jr., 24, of Roseland entered pleas in federal court to wire fraud, mail fraud and aggravated identity theft. In 2017, Spina bought a 2016 Super Bowl ring from a Patriots player who then left the team. Spina sold the ring for $63,000 to a Southern California broker and used the player's information to contact the ring company and order three slightly smaller rings designed for friends and family, prosecutors said.

Tom Brady will join Fox Sports as its lead NFL analyst when his playing career ends. Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch announced the news Tuesday during an earnings call. The seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback will call games alongside lead play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt and will work as an "ambassador" for Fox with a focus on "client and promotional initiatives." Brady, who turns 45 in August, becomes the latest superstar quarterback to pursue a post-retirement media career. Tony Romo has been the lead NFL analyst at CBS since 2017 after a 14-year career with the Dallas Cowboys. Drew Brees worked as a football analyst at NBC last year after 20 seasons in the NFL, and Peyton Manning and Eli Manning teamed up last season on ESPN's "ManningCast" broadcast of Monday Night Football. Brady briefly retired earlier this offseason but announced in March that he had changed his mind and will return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the 2022 season.

Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady will be away from the team for a period of time to "deal with some personal things," coach Todd Bowles said Thursday. Bowles said Brady's absence was discussed in advance and that he will return after next week's preseason game against the Tennessee Titans on Aug. 20. Brady had excused absences Aug. 3 -- his previously scheduled off day and also his 45th birthday -- and last Friday. The Buccaneers as a team were off last Thursday.

When Bowles announced that Brady would be stepping away, he said Brady would be back after the Bucs' second preseason game at the Tennessee Titans Saturday night in Nashville, meaning the earliest Brady could return to practicing with the team would be Monday, Aug. 22. But Bowles did not provide a clear return date, and Thursday he said that he wasn't sure when Brady would actually return, despite Brady's absence being pre-planned weeks ago, prior to training camp. All of Brady's absences with the Bucs in 2022 have been approved by the team, although it is highly unusual for NFL teams to grant that sort of flexibility. Bowles said he has kept in contact with Brady while he's been away from the team and said he was confident that Brady would be his starting quarterback when the Bucs visit the Dallas Cowboys to open the regular season Sept. 11. By suiting up that week, Brady would be the oldest quarterback in NFL history to start a regular-season game at age 45.

White was convinced to tell the story by Rob Gronkowski during the UFC with the Gronks broadcast on ESPN and ESPN+ for UFC 278 on Saturday night. Gruden resigned from the Raiders in October 2021. ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported in 2020 -- when Brady was a free agent -- that the Raiders planned to pursue Brady if he reached free agency. He did, but he ultimately signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he won the Super Bowl that season.

Tom Brady returned to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday, ending what has been described as an 11-day, prearranged break from training camp for personal reasons.The seven-time Super Bowl champion didn't address the media after practicing. Teammates and coach Todd Bowles said the 45-year-old quarterback was sharp throwing the ball and essentially picked up where he left off when he left the team on Aug. 11. While he was away, Brady missed two preseason games that Bowles said the quarterback would not have played in even if he were with the team.There was no rust for Brady, who got a quick fist bump from Brate before he started throwing drills. He appeared dialed in and focused. He was in command of the offense. Quarterbacks coach Clyde Christensen flashed a smile leaving the practice field, saying, "He looked good and fresh. It was good to have him out there. I'll tell ya that."
