True Blood

Already downloaded it this morning and about to watch now! DON'T LET ME DOWN, ANNA.

I thought it was great. Funny, sexy, and weird. Lots of tits and ass!

OH YEAH, at the beginning of the show there was a sign that said "God hates fangs!"

^ Cassie, you would LOVE the books! Funny, smoking hot sex scenes, and all sorts of magical beings to test Sookie's fortitude - with she meets with lots of Southern moxy!!

Yay! sounds like they're keeping true to the novels....I hafta work soon, but can hardly wait to watch it later ...whot!

Thnx again Menty.

Watched it...didn't like it much. Maybe I was expecting it to be dark, gritty and realisitic? Because it was really just a bit...weird. I couldn't get a handle on the tone. I thought they could have done a better job of introducing the world of the show...as it was, it was hard to take it seriously. "Girl, don't you be messin' with no vampires!" and lines like that. I don't. I'll keep watching. Maybe I'll get used to it.

But they have to get rid of that best friend character. The first seen with her was just laughably bad. She's one of those "I'm a total bitch but it's okay because I constantly reference the fact that I'm black, mmm hmm!" characters that I hate. Fuck her.

Paquin was pretty good. I don't like the way she looks with her hair scraped back so dramatically into a pony tail though, and she had that look most of the episode. YEAH, that's a petty thing to complain about, but it was annoying.

The main vampire guy was a bit cheesey. Like the kind of vampire Buffy would laugh at for trying too hard.

The vampire effects were pretty lame too. But maybe that's intentional? Maybe it's all setting the kind of b-movie cheesey tone of the show? I'll keep watching for Anna anyway.

I liked it for some of the reasons you hated it. It's the stereotype of every Southern person, black, white or gay, lol. I also liked the bitchy best friend, thought it was hilarious when she called the people in the store racist because they believed her when she said she had a kid.

I wasn't expecting it to be "wacky" I suppose. And southern stereotypes have little meaning to me, of course.

Yeah, I figure you would appreciate some of it more if you actually knew some Southerners.. besides me. I'm thinking about ordering some of the books.

^DOITDOITDOIT!
you wont regret it! We have them at our local library, praise Allah, so I keep a watch for the newest titles (ok, I put holds on them before they even get purchased, but anyway).

Just watched the ep (LOVE YOU MENTY!) : WOW!!!!
but it went by too quickly - now she's getting a shit-kicking in the parking lot

-
I bet Sam saves her - can't believe she can't read him to know he's the dog! The vampire Bill made a comment about it to her but she totally missed it. Did you catch it?
(in the book she knows)

and I want it to be next week!!!

there are some characters that aren't in the book that are a nice touch and there are some it's fun knowing inside stuff about that has not been revealed yet.

Paquin's character was the only one I liked.

I watched it and thought it was shit to be honest!

If you're going to do vampires AGAIN then there has to be an interesting twist or spin on the mythos. And I just didn't find it in Tru Blood.

The characters were crappy and the plot was boring. The vampires instilled zero interesting traits and having a "real world" that now had vampires as another demographic was poorly conveyed.

But it was the sheer cheesiness that hammered the final nail in the vamps coffin.

Paquin was fucking hot though.

Bill the vampire is hot.

yes he is - and he's not the hottest of the characters to be yet revealed! Wait til you meet the shape-shifters (guys AND gals) !

- and the fairies!

*sings*

ALL I AM SAYING/
IS GIVE IT A[NOTHER] CHANCE

otherwise, I guess it's just you and me, Cassie!

p.s. we can drool over the hotties together. The vamps are actually not as sexy as the werewolves cos they tend to be pale and cold and, well, dead. So far the casting is true to the author's description - except Sookie does not have a black best friend in the books.

Unlike Dexter, in which the only thing the TV show and books have in common are the characters' names! The stories are waaaay different - honestly - the TV show is vastly better.

Sookie's the interesting spin. It's not a vampire series...there wil be lots of other supernaturals to appear and it's about how a mortal (sookie) relates to them and how she handles the knowledge of their existance in her world.

I really think it has potential! But maybe it's always gonna be more for the chicks? The books certainly have a larger female reader/fan base.
(Although I do think Anna looks very fetching as a blonde and she does wear tight t-shirts so guys should appreciate that!)

Seriously though, did you not think Bill the vampire was SUCH a cliche with his dark brooding "girls can't resist me even though I'm a bit of an asshole who drinks blood lol" shit?

I think he is just old fashioned, I didn't see him as arrogant. I got the impression he was kinda lost, and Sookie freaked him out cause she wasn't scared of him.
