He didn't even used to be funny and then got lazy with film choices like Steve Martin. He was never ever funny in the first place and his movies were shit from the start.
Could y'all have a talk with my nieces? They consider Adam Sandler and Will Ferrell to be comedy gods.
I will give Ferrell "Elf" -- that's an okay post-modern holiday tradition. And Sandler gets "Happy Gilmore" for the fistfight with Bob Barker. Otherwise...
Yeah, children who grew up on Adam Sandler movies.
I only came around to tolerating it last year, when I was forced to watch it. But my nieces seem to find some of Ferrell's behavior in that movie sincere, and not cynical. It's interesting to try and view it that way, if not completely possible.
Don't let me talk to your nieces, because I love Will Ferrell. It's juvenile, toilet humor most of the time, but he cracks me up. I even like him in non-comedy, such as "Stranger than Fiction" and "Megamind" is one of my favorite flicks.
I enjoyed Anchorman but was not a fan of Talledaga Nights (despite being a fan of NASCAR). I did like the fact they used real NASCAR tv commentators in the film though.
Is Zoe Deschanel trying to be funny? I'm not so sure. I know most of her movies have been comedies, but it seems more like she's cast because she's kooky, rather than acting kooky because that's the part she's been cast as. In any case, no, she's not funny. Interesting to watch, though.
