WAIT A MINUTE, IT IS THURSDAY :rwmad:

I watched the four new episodes. Okay, my mental health has been a bit poor lately and sometimes I have a hard time liking anything. But, like with much of season one, I found this pretty dull! Jenna Ortega is GREAT, yes, and Emma Myers is super too. Any scene with them together is a pleasure to watch. But everything else? It feesl so half-assed and generic. It has Burton's "style" but none of his style (this made sense in my head) from when he was good. The Harry Potter riff is incredibly weak. There's good actors there: Steve Buscemi! Thandiwe Newton! Even Billie Piper! But they don't seemed be used to the best of their abilities at all. It's just like it's a high budget show so we'll get some big names to be there doing dull stuff. It picks up a little in episode 4 when the plot kicks in, and Fred Armisen as Fester is mildly amusing, but for the most part I was pretty bored other than when I was marveling at Jenna. I checked on TrekBBS and they all FUCKING LOVE IT and are having serious discussions about the plot and like I can't even imagine caring that much.

Maybe I'm just too old? I'm middle aged, should I be watching shit like this still? I feel like I'm still too young to start watching CSI or whatever the fuck old people watch.

Second batch of episodes in season 2 were a generally an improvement. Gwendoline Christie made a welcome return as a ghost and seems like the only character other than Wednesday and Enid who's allowed to have campy fun. Episode 6, where Wednesday and Enid swap bodies, was probably the best single episode of the show. Jenna and Emma got to play each other's characters (Jenna Oretega with emotions!) and they should be doing more episodes like this and less of the dire season long story arcs. The actor playing the zombie villain was good and had a few creepy moments. The ginger girl was a good young actress and her dance scene with Endi was very well done.

It still has problems though: Steve Buscemi's character was a total dud and a waste of the actor. I didn't care at all about his storyline. Joanna Lumley did her best but the writing for her character wasn't savage enough. Morticia and Gomez continue to be disappointments with absolutely no horniness. And Pugsley's actor was shit. Billie Piper does nothing until the very end of the season where they hint that maybe she's a villain, but we know so little about her that who even cares? The school setting is nothing but a backdrop: I don't think we see Wednesday or Enid in class even once.

But yeah I'll inevitably watch season 3 and continue to like Jenna and Emma and to a much lesser extent other parts.
