I was a total hockey nerd a few years ago, but I kind of got out of it after I got busy with school and work (well, I guess that would be after I quit the dance team...my sophomore year in college). My dad and I had season tickets on the glass for a couple of years when the local team was around- I don't think I missed a game either season...teehee!

As for the NHL, I think I really lost interest when the strike happened. Kind of an "out of sight, out of mind" kind of thing. :/

I knew it! We Canadians were worried the fucking NHL would dig its own grave south of the border. Strange that when the NHL head office was in Montreal, there was never a problem. Now that it is in New York, there is nothing BUT problems. Fucking Americans. Oops. Er, never mind.

Canadians were worried that the strike would end hockey's popularity in the USA where it is not even close to being at a par with the popularity of the sport here in Canada (we have far more ice hockey rinks than the USA does although a fraction of your population). I recall assisting a buddy of mine coaching an ice hockey team and going to a tournament in Cleveland. I was sitting on the benches with the hockey crowds (our team was not to play until 4 hours later) and watching some hockey games. Suddenly, some boys from the Pittsburgh Junior Penguins surrounded me. They were eyeballing my hockey jacket (Scarborough Cougars). They told me they had never heard of us. I told them of course not. Scarborough was a city within Metropolitan Toronto. When I mentioned Toronto, they gasped. I was puzzled. They asked me about the Toronto Young Nationals. I told them I knew who they were. Of course. They were from my city. Apparently the Nats had won all of their games up to that point and by HUGE margins (11-1), (9-2), (8-0). I asked about their team and the city of Pittsburgh. They told me the city had about 3 ice rinks in all of Pittsburgh. I was stunned. My NEIGHBOURHOOD alone had more than that. Seems the Junior Penguins were a powerhouse in the USA. Completely undefeated. To make a long story short, the NATS destroyed them 13-2. Before meeting the NATS, the Junior Penguins were undefeated. heh, heh *beams with pride and yells 'FUCK THE USA!'*
