It's sad, how much of my life it took me to understand ramen. I mean, until I was 19 or 20 I didn't even know about ramen. And it took until a year or so ago to realize ramen is like oatmeal--or Starbuck's coffee: It's just a medium for all the shit you put in it.
Doing no meat for Lent so I'm trying fish variations I only do once a year. Tinned, smoked kippers. Turns out they're actually fairly tasty at the bottom of a pot of ramen (along with onions, tomatoes, chives, an egg, cheese, butter, more cheese, Sriracha, and I forget what else). Sardines were edible but nothing to write home about. I would actually consider voluntarily having kipper ramen on a regular basis.
