Unsure if you can open the case and remove the drive, or if the drive is fully working since everything else seems to be borked, but if you can remove the drive just grab one of these or similar and you can mount the drive like a flash drive to your new laptop and transfer files over that way. Assuming the new computer has conventional USB-A ports. So complicated these days. Anywho, hands down one of the most useful tools in my utility belt.I have to go get a new computer. The keys are getting worn out on the 13 year old laptop, at least one of the USB ports is unreliable, there's no support for any browsers for it anymore, and last night the speaker died. Everything indicates that I have sound but it just crapped out mid YouTube video. Got it back for a bit and then it died for good. I suspect an electrical connection went. Decided it might be smart to run a backup, which is when I realized the bad USB port. Once I got the backup drive connected I realized my last backup was close to a year and a half ago. So now I *hope* it is backing up files--although I don't see a status they way I usually do. :/
