Why Discrimination and Racism can be a Good thing

True, but we've "evolved". That's not justification, but reality. The European imperialist powers had better weapons, tactics, and the incentive (monetary and religious) to gain power. Was it "right"? Depends on who you ask, but the end results are hard to argue.

If the Natives of the New World had reacted quickly enough and killed off the first settlers they'd have saved themselves a lot of trouble. This is a historical lesson that we can follow, OR we can follow the Chinese model: as opposed to killing off invaders, absorb them. Convince them that our social institutions are superior and allow them into it. The Mongols became proper Mandarin's eventually...and no one knows what happened to the Roanoke settlement. ;)

But if we allow people to not only hold themselves apart without penalty, but actively demand that the "native" society conform to THEIR norms, then that "native" society is endangered.
A little name calling and a few lynchings are just a society's immune response kicking in.
