Catlin Clark impresses in wnba debut: 'a lot to be proud of'
The NCAA's all-time leading scorer scored 11 of Indiana's first 19 points before finishing with 16 in the first half, highlighted by a step-back 3-pointer against veteran Natasha Howard. Clark's 21 points (6-for-15 shooting, 5-for-13 from 3) tied for the game high with Dallas rookie Jaelyn Brown, and she also had 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 5 turnovers. NaLyssa Smith added 20 points for the Fever.

wnba to begin full-time charter flights, commissioner says
Engelbert said in a meeting with sports editors that the league will launch a charter program "as soon as we can get planes in places." She said it's projected to cost around $25 million per year for the next two seasons. That means no more long security lines, bodyguards in public spaces, cramped legroom or layovers for the professional athletes.

Caitlin clark, fever embrace wnba's approval of charter flights
"I'm thankful at whatever point that happens, that would be great for us. It will make recovery easier, it will make travel easier," Clark said. "It just makes life a lot easier for a lot of people, but also it's just something a lot of people have deserved for years and years." In addition to the WNBA's improved travel accommodations, Clark and the Fever will enjoy increased screen time for the upcoming season.

Sources: Toronto expansion team on track to join WNBA in 2026

The WNBA is in the final stages of negotiations to add a Toronto franchise that will start play in 2026, sources confirmed to ESPN, as the league hopes to add two franchises that season. An official announcement for the Toronto team is expected May 23, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corpation, which first reported on the expansion franchise. League sources told ESPN that no official vote on a Toronto expansion franchise has been held. "We continue to engage in productive conversations with interested ownership groups in a number of markets and the granting of any expansion teams requires a vote of the WNBA and NBA Board of Governors," a WNBA spokesperson said in a statement. Along with Toronto, sources confirmed that groups are in talks to revive a bid for a new team in Portland, as first reported by The Oregonian. The additions would bring the WNBA to 15 teams. An expansion franchise in Golden State is set to join the league in 2025. The Toronto team, which would be the first WNBA team outside the United States, will be owned by Kilmer Sports Inc., headed by Toronto billionaire Larry Tanenbaum. Tanenbaum is a minority owner and chairman of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, which owns the Maple Leafs and Raptors, among other teams.

Aces star A'ja Wilson announces signature shoe with Nike

Two-time WNBA MVP A'Ja Wilson is finally getting her Nike signature shoe. Wilson's shoe will be called "A'One." Nike has named Wilson to the brand's roster of signature athletes -- a group featuring Serena Williams, Megan Rapinoe, Naomi Osaka and the New York Liberty' Sabrina Ionescu. The shoe and rest of Wilson's signature collection will arrive in 2025. After working with Nike for over a year to develop her signature collection, Wilson requested the news drop in conjunction with the Aces' trip to Columbia, South Carolina, which is her hometown.

Wilson will be the 13th WNBA athlete to have a signature shoe, with the majority issued during the league's early years of existence. After a decade-plus hiatus where no WNBA players got a signature shoe, Breanna Stewart and Puma launched the Stewie 1s in 2022, while Nike came out with the Air Deldon, Elena Delle Donne's shoe, in 2022 and the Sabrina 1s for Ionescu the following year.

WNBA expansion team Golden State announces team name: Valkyries

The Golden State WNBA expansion team announced Tuesday its name and brand identity: the Golden State Valkyries. The name, which originates from Norse mythology, refers to a "host of warrior women who are fearless and unwavering -- flying through air and sea alike," a team release said. "This brand is Golden State's modern interpretation of Valkyries: strong, bold, and fierce." The team's primary color is "Valkyrie Violet," which signifies "power, ambition, nobility, and women's empowerment, much like purple has been used symbolically in modern history," the team said. The Golden State Valkyries will begin competition in the 2025 WNBA season as the league's 13th active team and first expansion franchise since 2008. The organization will host home games at San Francisco's Chase Center and practice in Oakland at the former practice facility for the Golden State Warriors, the Valkyries' NBA affiliate.

Toronto awarded WNBA's 1st team outside U.S., to play in '26

Toronto has been awarded the WNBA's first franchise outside the United States, with the expansion team set to begin play in 2026. To approve the new WNBA franchise in Toronto, the WNBA board of governors voted 13-0 and the NBA board of governors voted 29-1, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Only the New York Knicks-- who are suing the Raptors over alleged theft of proprietary information -- voted against the expansion, sources said. Toronto will be the WNBA's 14th franchise, with the expansion Golden State Valkyries set to start play next year. Teresa Resch, a former Raptors executive, was named president of the WNBA team. The commissioner expects the league to get to 16 teams by 2028. Sources confirmed to ESPN this month that groups are in talks to revive a bid for a new team in Portland, which would bring the WNBA to 15 teams.
